I've been hoping for a new version of this for years! Always loved this game even more than Guitar Hero, Rock Band etc. Had hoped Rock Band Blitz would be a decent replacement, but it just wasn't the same.
It was my favourite game on the PS2. I put a ridiculous number of hours into it and can proudly (sadly?) say I held the no.1 spot in the world on at least one of the tracks, might have been BT and Wildchild with Kimosabe (which coincidentally, I just listened to on my stereo 15 minutes ago).
Really hope this gets made, and would gladly donate some dollars their way to make it happen!
This is the first Kickstarter I've ever backed (in for $40, upped from an initial $20) but as of around 11pm Monday evening when it just scraped over half way, with 4 days to go, I figured it had no chance of happening. Suddenly it's jumped $220,000 in 31-32 hours and with 62 hours left, the remaining $180,000 looks very achievable!
That's a trend (based on amount raised over the life of the campaign so far) not a projection. Kicktraq isn't weighted to take into account the sudden $230,000 spike and obviously no-one expects it to continue. It'd be funded tonight if it did!
Still 2 and a half days left, $175,000 to go. Hurry up and wake up America, so we can get it moving substantially again.
They should have allowed for more time to raise the money I thought at the time.
Yeah it seems they went with one of, if not the shortest option available but then even if they had of gone for an extra week, maybe they'd have just had an extra week of middling figures.... but what if they miss out by just $30,000. Gutted.
That's a trend (based on amount raised over the life of the campaign so far) not a projection.
Exactly, that's why I said it's still not on course
I've not funded it myself because I'm not sure I like the reasons behind this kickstarter. I seem to recall comments roughly saying.. "Throwing lots of money at a problem doesn't make it happen", "Money is not an issue for this" and "There are lots of legal issues with kickstarters" by HMX staff in the past.
I've been playing the demo this afternoon, the first three songs are available only on it.
It was very easy to jump in, brought back all the memories from playing the originals.
I'm not overly sure I liked the first two songs, the Freezepop song (third song) however is great fun (no Science Genius Girl but you can't have everything). I found it more enjoyable if I put the difficulty up to advanced or expert.
So now in a bit of a dilemna, do I go ahead and buy it or will the rest of the songs leave me cold like the first two?
I like the demo. Anyone know if you can get the soundtrack from anywhere?
At the moment, Harmonix haven't released the soundtrack to buy separately. If you were a certain level tier backer (silver tier, I think? i.e. $70 or £48) then you received a link to a digital download of the soundtrack.
So unless you know someone who backed it at that amount, you're outta luck.
ljp - I really like it, but the soundtrack isn't as diverse as the original PS2 soundtrack was. It's all electronica.
I absolutely love some of the songs (got 2 still left to unlock; there are 30 in total) but several are a bit dull/ repetitive.
Overall, I'm very happy I bought it. My only niggles would be:
a) More diversity in the music styles
b) A toggle for 'old school' settings, i.e. allowing you to change to empty tracks by mistake, and have to move lanes with multiple button presses.
c) Perhaps a couple more visual styles just to jazz it up a bit.
The sound quality is awesome, though. And my subwoofer really kicks into gear when I'm playing along (unlike Rock Band 4).

I see what you mean about the songs being very Electronica, bit of a shame that but I guess limited funds means they couldn't afford to license the music they would have liked. So I will be waiting for it to get reduced before I take the plunge.
