Reached Chapter 9 & it remains supremely polished, looks & sounds fantastic & it's videogame storytelling at its very best BUT the actual gameplay remains just ok. I much prefer when it is in explore/climbing mode & the new rope dynamics add a little freshness. Unarmed combat remains rather random & gunplay is the same old story.

I have to say at this stage, I much preferred Rise of the Tomb Raider which didn't look quite as good & had poorer storytelling but the sandbox nature of the actual gameplay is much more involved & interesting for me rather than the linear (so far) structure of U4.

Surprisingly, this weekend, I found myself playing the new Doom (single-player) campaign much more than U4...

I like the new Tomb Raider games a lot, but the sandbox elements in them are frustrating and poorly realised.

Also, every AAA title these days seems to be a sandbox. The more linear and tightly cinematic approach to Uncharted feels like a breath of fresh air at the moment.

My main gripe is due to my obsession with finding collectables (i.e. the treasures in this game) that it ruins the cinematic drive of the game. For example, during the escape from the Auction when you have the whole mansion area at your disposal to explore, rather than making my way directly to the escape point, I found myself exploring every corner of the location for treasures which kinda ruined the intended cinematic tension of that chapter of the game. Of course, unknown to me, there was nothing to find but the temptation of all that map to explore was too great as I always try my best to find all the treasure on my first playthrough on the regular difficulty level...

On the first playthrough of Uncharted games, I tend to ignore all the collectibles for that very reason. I prefer pick them up on individual chapter replays later on.

That is literally mental.

You can't blame the 'cinematic drive' of the game (or lack of) on your obsession with hunting for collectible items!

I play the game to enjoy the experience, and very rarely go out of my way to explore. IF I was a trophy hunter (which I'm not in the slightest), then as Tony says, I'd go looking for them during individual chapter play throughs after I'd completed the game.

I'm on Chapter 13 at the moment. Stunning.

That's what the explorer level of the game is for - to allow you to have a look around at your leisure.
Both the auction and prison segments were very enjoyable played at full speed.

Agree with that. They should flash up an icon at the start of a section if there's nowt to find.

This is exactly how I've been playing it. (although hasn't really been a gripe for me)

MUST FIND TREASURE.

I've reached chapter 15 tonight, and am starting to get bored now. Its the same thing over and over again (find the route up a mountain, hopefully get lucky in a firefight, plenty of mashing the triangle button to remove obstacles from your path, etc).

The chase where your jumping from one enemy vehicle to another was decent, but the part where you get the jeep and have to use the winch was tedious.

I love it but am totally stumped as to what to do/where to go next. Chapter 14. Been stuck here for an hour now. Very frustrating.

I got lost there too

You need to head to the right side of the area and there's some steps you can go down.

Hmm. I couldn't select Crushing on first play through, it was greyed out. I had to pick the next one down.

Even though it's greyed out you can still select it apparently.

You have to select it and then select it again after a warning.
