Yep, its this that turns me off, as even if you have old software, it probably won't be able to open your files created with CC. So you are effectively locked in.

I'm hoping more people vote with their feet, and don't buy in. Scott Kelby seems to be saying that Adobe have hit their target, and that is why they've reduced the price to everyone else... which sounds like business nonsense to me.
I suspected he's being fed a line, and Adobe need the extra revenue and that their Brand trust is shot to bits following their security breach (and possibly that there are loads of hacked versions of CC out there now?).

I'm sticking to my CS6 for the time being, I've spent about £400 on Adobe products, and don't feel like giving them more at the moment, especially as you would be completely at their mercy once they decide to raise prices..

Thanks OP and At The Gates, I previously had a single app subscription which expires in 10 days time, so have just got the next year for half price!

The subscription option clearly isn't for everyone, but works out best for me (and I'm sure many other people).

I would buy Lightroom outright, but even if the option was still there I can't justify the initial price of Photoshop for the amount I use it - so the subscription model suits me

TBH nor would I, except that I was tipped that those who were buying Photoshop Elements were a year later being offered 40-45% discount on Photoshop, meaning I paid about £320, which I thought was fair especially as I'd been using a hooky copy of CS3 for donkeys years prior to going legit, so I saw it as a way of paying back Adobe when I actually could afford it.

I must agree that if I hadn't made that investment, that going CC would look attractive, but I'm still not comfortable about the prospect of making myself a hostage of fortune with Adobe. I'd recomment people saved their content as TIFFs.

So how is everyone getting on with this - keeping it up, or bailed after a year ?

I'm looking for an all-in-1 JPG showcase with RAW to cloud, for the best price. I thought my time had come after Amazon's unlimited $12/year for unlimited photo backups (inc RAW) but that's US only (and UK folks need to get Prime, I even emailed them to confirm).

For $13.75/month 500px are offering full Adobe LR/CS plus their unlimited 'Awesome' service - excellent price, but this is JPG only (so I'd need Crashplan or someone for my RAWs).

Huge & confusing article here at PetaPixel from the end of last year, with a decent summary graphic.

Any advice ?

I'm sticking with the Adobe sub, I've also got Prime for backups. However, I'm finding it hard to actually get my stuff uploading to Amazon - I have a huge number, so I don't want to do it folder by folder...

What are people paying for the subs now? I got an CPS email the other day offering a promotional sub price, but wasn't convinced.

I'm not signed up, I still have CS6, and LR4. LR5 didn't offer enough to entice me to upgrade, so waiting to see what will be in LR6.

My Adobe Sub comes up for renewal in May, probably stick with it as Lightroom pays for itself, don't use Photoshop like I used too as I don't have the commercial design work on my plate anymore but it's nice to have it for various things. Looking forward to Photoshop being cloud based ie a browser app so I can use it on my Chromebook. Beta Testing still going on North American Edu Market.

On Amazon, the LR/PS cloud package is £100 for the yearly sub (USA $120+tax?) and pretty much the same directly from adobe.com.

LR6 (CC cloud with PS) appears to be legitimately available (selecting 'UK' location) from BH photo in the US, for $99 for the year's subscription ($20 off till the end of tomorrow, and free of sales tax and p&p) - worth a punt ?

You can try, I recall trying to do the same a few years ago, as PS was on sale on Adobe's own US site, but was eventually warned off, as I thought the licence agreement related to US residents, so the licence wouldn't be legitimate.

Just bought LR6 as an upgrade from LR4 - didn't bother with LR5, but the performance boost may justify the £60 one off payment.

Yes, iirc this is the first time that Adobe has actually mentioned any kind of performance improvements in a new release. Users with high end Macs and PCs have been crying for several years about this. Using the GPU will probably make my laptop run superhot though ! :O

And they've finally added panorama and HDR - both should have come before the video features, imo.

Well, I checked with B&H live chat and they confirmed it's OK for non-US orders.
Couldn't resist at that price.

And as a bonus, I'd forgotten about my MS OneDrive 100gb freebie, so that's a nice home for my RAW files backup. Will have a play with PicBackMan too, when I get a chance (bulk upload and backup to different cloud providers).

Well, I'm having to jump through hoops to officially get LR6/cc installed, with problematic symptoms that go back more than 12 months !

- Adobe account 'country' reset (fair enough, having a UK credit card, living in Maldives, bought from USA)

- but the download keeps stalling at exactly 42%, now trying Direct download links at ProDesignTools

- corrupt cookies mean I can't access the Adobe forums ! -> "redirect loop"

- LOL @ the official Adobe install instructions - Disable pop-up blockers in your browser. Turn off firewalls, antivirus software.

I could so much more easily have torrented the standalone LR6, patched my hosts file and applied the crack.
