Can anyone help with the following custom CSS code?

The website uses widgets on the home page - 3 x icon boxes with text and divide lines between them.

I'm happy with them apart from the amount of space between the right of the text and the divide line.

I can increase this space by adding custom CSS code to the main theme options but this then applies it to the whole website and changes the same widgets that feature in the header - these were fine as they were and don't need changing.

I can add custom CSS code to the individual icon boxes with the page builder but I can't seem to get to to work in the same way as the custom CSS code in the main theme options.

Main Theme Options (the forums won't let me post the following with the closing bracket):

.icon-box__text { margin-right: 25px;

I do have some luck using the following code the individual icon boxes with the page builder but it also moves the divide line, which I don't want to move and they didn't move with the other code in the theme options:

Individual Icon Boxes / Page Builder:

margin-right: 25px

I can't seem to isolate the "__text" part of the icon-box when adding custom CSS code to the individual icon boxes with the page builder.

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Many thanks,

Psycho

Very difficult without a site link.

- Try padding as well as margin ?
- Try adding pad/margin to the line ?

> To specifically target certain elements and not affect the whole site, add a CSS Class or ID to the element.

As driver8 says, your page level CSS custom code needs to be more specific ie you need another class / id name in front of it.

You probably can't get to the __text in the plugin CSS as it is probably added automatically within the plugin code and the author didn't think it needed its own CSS rules

Thanks for the replies!

I can’t post a link at the moment but might DM it if I have no luck.

I’ll try the margin and padding, also I was wondering about the CSS Class or ID, which is one of the options in the page builder.

I take it I can give it a new Class or ID and then add new CSS to the theme options to target that new Class or ID only?

I am able to make the change I want when I “inspect” the page in Chrome but I can’t get it to work on the actual website.

I’ll try and few more things following your replies!

Cheers!

So if I give each of the icon boxes a new Class via the page builder options (i.e. “spaced”), then in the CSS theme options would I use the following:

.icon-box__text class=“spaced” { margin-right: 25px; **

If you can give them their own class then you just need:

.spaced { margin-right: 25px; **

I did this but when I added the additional CSS to the theme options it did the same as when I did it in the page builder options - it moves the divide line as well as the text.

I need to find a way to isolate the __text bit, I think!

Maybe if I add a Class to the header widgets, then I can isolate them and change the margin back, but keeping the increased margin for the other icon boxes.

Psycho

EIDT: No luck with that either!

These can be frustrating.

First thing to try is adding '!important'.

If that doesn't work, in Dev (F12) mode, look at the html structure to the left of the css panel, hover over the html elements to better ID what you need.

The latest version WordPress changed the way you edit pages (more like a drag and drop page builder, I think) but there is a plugin that changes it back to classic way.

This might resolve your problem?

Not at my computer at the moment but will have a better look in the morning.

Thanks for trying to help but I think I'll just have to live with it... it's not a massive issue but I thought it might be easy to change and thought I'd give it a go.

Actually, it worked!

I thought I needed to add the code to the page builder CSS style but I just added it to the additional CSS theme option and it worked:

HTML Code:
.icon-box {
padding-right: 25px !important;
**
Thanks!

Glad that helped!

You might find that your theme isn't compatible with the new WordPress page builder feature?

Is it a new theme that is regularly updated by the developer?

Glad you got it sorted.

Though the front end developers I work with would cry at your use of !important

Possibly a bit of a odd question...

If you had a website hosted with one company (A) and the domain name was purchased from another company (B) and you wanted a new website hosted at the same hosting company (A) but you no longer had access to the other account, so the new website is hosted under a new account, how would the new website show when going to the domain name, i.e. ignoring the old version of the website?

The domain name servers would be the same for the hosting company but the hosting company would have two versions of the website under two different accounts?
