Another option to consider, if you use Calibre, is the plugin highlighted in post #7 above.

Also, can Calibre put the front cover and the back cover (or a book summary) on the Kindle?
Is Mobi the best format to use when converting from ePub format?

I've got the Collections onto the Kindle with Calibre, so thanks for that, but how do I get the covers on? I've installed a copy cover plugin for Calibre but it says
"calibre, version 0.8.32
ERROR: Copy Cover - device error: K:\linkss\screensavers
Destination folder does not exist on KINDLE
Sorry, this plugin will only work on a Kindle with both the 'jailbreak' and 'screensaver' mods installed."
I didn't know you had to jailbreak a Kindle. What is the easiest way of getting the cover and plot summary on there?

The metadata in Calibre handles the cover and summary, no jailbreaking required.

Ok - have just started using Calibre to convert/send .mobi files over to my Kindle.
It all seems to be going fine but sometimes (a) it adds 'extra' stuff to the book on the Kindle eg one book I have added seems to include 'meta data' at the top of every page ie "Title_Ded 7/24/02 2:13 PM Page 2", etc, etc and (b) it adds a table of contents for some books but not others.
Is this purely down to the .mobi file or I can set Calibre up so that it doesn't do it regardless ?

Which slip case can you recommend for a Kindle 3?
I have a case but now I've decided I prefer reading the kindle without one, just feels better.

Hiya,
I agree, got one of these back in October and no complaints. There was a promo on at the time so it was a couple of quid cheaper but it'd buy one again. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004NOF1DA

Just got a kindle for Christmas...I picked up a case in a sale in Tesco (Jivo), but think I prefer reading it out of the case so may get a slip case instead...
How do I monitor the space used? I know I have a while beofre its an issue, but I like to know these things... :-)
And can anyone recommend a reading light?
cheers

From the Home screen, press the menu button. At the top of the screen in the top left, will tell you how much space you have remaining (currently, I've got 381MB free)

750+. I used Calibre to convert all my previously purchased ePubs, from when I had the first Sony eReader and then had it email them all to my Kindle, so they were automatically stored in my Amazon account as an online backup, I just haven't gotten 'round to removing them from the actual Kindle yet.

Thanks!
I have the new 2GB device, and after downloading 2 books I have 1.2GB free...guess the OS takes up a chunk of space.
cheers

I saw an advert on amazon for audible with the kindle, can the keyboard or Kindle 4 now play audiobooks or have I been missing something all along?
