his social media seems to be run by a team now rather than him posting, hope his health is improving, he's the only author I still have to actually buy a book on release. kindle is great but his books have always been special.

Having read (and given up on) Scarlet Gospels...it's almost as if that was written by a team as well. I have never failed to finish a Barker work before, yet I failed with this as it didn't seem to come from the same pen.

I've not read Scarlet Gospels yet; I bought it in hardback on release day and it's still on my shelf waiting for me to finish playing Witcher 3 and do various other things. From what I remember though the book had a very troubled gestation and eventually the narrative was pieced together by one of his friends from a much larger collection of notes and writing.

quite enjoyed it but I would have preferred another Abarat over anything else, although I wonder if that series might never be concluded, the social media thing & lack of recent interviews on the website suggests all is not well.

Yes, nearly all of his twitter posts seem to be about flogging stuff (paintings, book special editions etc) rather than anything personal

New book called Scarebaby out in September apparently. From the title I'm assuming this is either an Abarat sequel/tie-in.

Perhaps he's in a competition with GRRM for delaying finishing a series

From a writers point of view he may as well be...just seems to be releasing old stuff or content with his name on by others.

In the last interview on cliverbarker.info a few months ago he said Abarat 4 is almost finished and book 5 plotted, last 3 years his health seems to have been very bad.

But..., because there are so many illustrations in the books and they're all painted, it takes a hell of a long time to produce those books. They won't be out 'soon.' There's a lot of publishing work to do - you know, which picture goes where and we've got design issues and so on..." plus references to many months of work says not for a while and I'd take the references to almost finished as the text with a lot of painting to do.
