Think we're paying thirty odd quid for Sky's Variety pack at the moment.
They seem to be doing an Entertainment option for £20 if you sign up for 18 months or so. Anyone know if he latter loses any channels from the VP?
And not clear if the £20 is a standalone option 'cos there seemed to be an implication that you needed to take box sets or HD in order to get that price. (Even so, would rather pay 25 for Entertainment and HD than what I currently pay.)

We just dropped to the Entertainment package from the Boxed Sets package, not sure if that is the same as the Variety package.
We lost Kids, HD and Boxed Sets. But I added Kids and HD for a fiver apiece. We now pay 30 quid as opposed to 38 quid which we were paying.
Apparently the Entertainment 20 quid package goes up to 25 quid after 18 months. We never watched the Boxed Sets.
Also, I'm pretty cheesed off with Sky. Our box buggered up and some guy on the phone talked me through a rebuild without telling me I would loose everything. So, faulty box for two weeks, all recordings wiped, no TV for at least 3 days while waiting for an engineer (which we had to pay for). We didn't even get a free month or an apology.
Engineer fitted new box, new dish and LNB. Everything was buggered.
Edit: Oh, and everyone tells me that they should have fitted a Sky Q box.

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case, so if you want Entertainment at £20 and nothing else you can you can, then HD if you want at an extra £5, same for Boxsets.

Yep. Spot on. My son wasn't too bothered about the cartoons but I watch Adventure Time and the Mrs isn't too bothered about HD so I almost dropped them both from our subscription. Which would have just been Entertainment at £20.
Also, the impending price hike is for old subscriptions only.
BTW anyone paying for Sky Go Extra cancel it and download the Sky app. Login and go VIP (it is free, and pretty crap) but you get free access to Sky Go Extra.

If you have just set VIP up you should get an email telling you that you can access it via the app. It took a few minutes to set up IIRC.
Edit: Make sure you use the same account on both:
"Great news Steven,
you now have free Sky Go Extra with Sky VIP"

You have to be on either the Gold, Platinum or Black levels I think to get Sky Go Extra for free.

Gold: 3 – 8 years
Platinum: 8 – 15 years
Diamond: 15+ years

Finally leave $ky on the 11th if memory serves, due to moving out from the house i've been in & had their tv service since the end of 2006!
Vaguely possible i would cancel it and take it with me at the last minute but i'm still in the process of moving and with downsizing & needing to get rid of so much stuff watching tv is the last thing on my mind.
At the moment i'me going to have a 2tb wifi box, 1.5tb box, and 2 or 3 regular HD boxes to get rid of !

Sky engineer will take back old boxes - are they worth anything if you want to sell them on?

I've seen them sell on local Facebook marketplace for £10-20-30 depending on the type.
We never upgraded to Sky Q here, but had multiple boxes upgraded, then i replaced one as the 2tb models were £50 and had wifi so that meant getting rid of the sky wifi-wired adapter.
My thinking is if i can sell them instead of moving them from my old loft to my new one or binning them - they should at least pay for a meal out or a decent takeaway

Possibly not worth the hassle, I just keep an old one kicking about so when I hear someone's has gone tits up, I can say "I've got a spare one you can have"

So I spoke online with an 'Expert'. Said I could only get Entertainment Pack with a bolt on.
This is what's on Sky's webpage.
"Get our new Sky Entertainment pack when you take one of our flexible TV add-ons, like Box Sets - with 400 series on demand. You'll still get the dramas, comedies, music and documentaries you enjoy, as well as our Kids pack to keep the children entertained.
Then add Cinema for 1,000 movies on demand, or take your pick of our Sky Sports channels."
===
So I'm paying £31.30 at the moment. So I could get a package for £25 for 18 months. And then it will go up to £30? As they're 'flexible' packages, the implication is that I could drop HD down the line.

I did not know that. Pretty sneaky IMO. The contract is for 18 months, same length as the 'discount'. Like you, I intend to drop something after that. Probably the cartoons as Jake doesn't really watch them any more.
They don't have a very good selection of boxed sets IMO. Especially if you have Netflix.
For the movies we go with Now TV as you get a student discount, and additional discounts every time you go to cancel.

I was given sky sports for free for 18 months due to their monumental cock up regarding a sky vip nfl tickets offer. Now they’re saying I’ll have to pay £1 increase for my basic package plus an extra 50p per month for sky sports. It’s the principle rather than the money, they shouldn't charge me for SS..
