The streaming thread - all about streaming to 360 and PS3

I see lots of threads about this popping up on this forum, and I have a question which wouldn't really fit in the other ones.

So I thought it might be a good idea to have a complete thread for streaming to 360 and PS3 so we can share tips, tricks, and help troubleshoot others.

So, I am going to kick it off with a question.

Having installed Vista Ultimate tonight, and set up streaming to the 360 and the PS3 I can say that the 360 has the bells and the whistles (and looks gorgeous) but for sheer speed and sound quality the PS3 blows the 360 out of the water.

I am using a better optical lead on my PS3 than the 360 but surely that shouldn't make much difference should it?

The difference is noticeable to me.

Oh, and if anyone has useful links or anything let me know - and I'll add them to this post.

Advice on streaming divx/xvid would be fab. Something I am looking to do.

Does anyone know how to use transcode on vista ultimate? I get an error everytime it tries to run

An optical cable is an optical cable - its a digital connection so as long as it works, its the same quality.
