Stephen King: UK Book Club + author info!

I am looking to start collecting Stephen Kings books...I was looking around and saw this site...

Nice idea...is there a UK version?

I have read that Kings later books try to blend all his books into one mythos....does this mean that it would be a good idea to read his books in order?

I'm going to reasd his novels in order first, then move onto short stories...

I am going to pick Carrie up on Saturday, then work my way up in order (unless anyone thinks differently)

I don't know i there is an equivalent UK version but I've got a load of Stephen King books that are just gathering dust.

Is there any particular format you want them in as I've some orginal hard backs, Book Club aCsociate hardbacks and some paperbacks. If you want them then you can have them for postage costs although it's fair to point out that some of the hardbacks may cost a bit to send.

It may take me a while to sort through my piles of books but if you are interested then let me know.

Not actually bought any his his books, like I mentioned in my first post two years ago!

just reading this thread for the first time and thinking, "he's going to his parents for xmas already?!" ... then noticed it was 2006! shame you never got the books though.

i would recommend buying them discounted on amazon and the like. well worth the money. but if you read nothing else then you must read all seven "Dark Tower" books. first one can be tough going in parts, but they pick up quickly. book IV is one of my all-time favourite books by any author. you will get slightly more from having read a few others first (most notably "Salem's Lot") but it's far from essential.

Hunted high and low in Parents attic not long ago for all my King books to read (mostly for first time) and cant find them

Besides the likes of Play and Amazon are there any good 2nd hand book sites, maybe even ones that sell collections etc

There isn't a charity shop in the country that doesn't have at least a dozen Stephen King books in stock.

I think it's in their charter or something...

I have now bought the paperbacks of both Carrie and Salem's Lot....will be starting Carrie tomorrow...and then gonna read them ALL chronologically!

Mate, if you live near a Co-Op it is worth checking out their el cheapo book sections. I picked up around 5 King books for 3 quid a pop.

Tesco also sold a boxed set with around 5 or 6 in for around a tenner.

You can also pick up a few in The Works and cheapo book places like that (I saw the Insomnia hardback in The Works the other week for 4.99)

I also picked up around 6 in a cheapo bookshop in York before Christmas (in a 3 for 9 quid offer).

Asda are selling Duma Key for around 3.50 (as are most supermarkets).

I've been picking up a lot of King paperbacks lately as I buy them in hardback (on release) but hate reading hardback books... especially on the crapper

Now, stop being such a tight arse and spend a few bloody quid. The economy is depending on you

I bought Carrie and Salem's Lot at full cover price from Waterstones. (The cheap shops did'nt have either of them

Bit of an update regarding King offers:

Blaze and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon are both in The Works '3 for a fiver' offer instore.

The Just After Sunset large format paperback is 7 quid in Asda instore (6 quid online but I don't know if that is the large format one).

I picked up The Dark Tower: The Wolves of Calla paperback for 4 quid in Publishers Book Clearance.

Heh, that's one I need. Read all up till there, and have the rest waiting to be read - but Wolves keeps eluding me. Sure, I could just buy online, but I'm determined to find it in the used book store I regularly visit.
