Arrow Help me interview: Alex Proyas

Following on from my successful interview with John Saxon, thanks to contributions from this very forum, I'm now looking for some thoughtful, intelligent questions for the director of Dark City, The Crow, I, Robot, Garage Days and the forthcoming film Knowing.

Please post your questions here, the interview will (hopefully) be published in a movie magazine before the year is out.

edit - nothing too antagonistic please, I reserve the right to edit questions to avoid 'unpleasantness'

Regards,

John

"Do you think Issac Asimov would be proud of I, Robot?"

I read that he was set to do a commentary but the studio didn't seem too keen in having his thoughts on the Lee's death aired. I'd also like to know what was up with that for sure.

Ask him what it was like to return to Australia to direct Garage Days after his experiences in Hollywood (or something along those lines)?

What was his reaction to having his recorded commentary dumped from the DVD release of The Crow?

N.B. The commentary had been recorded, this was confirmed by DVD producer Mark Rance in an interview over at DVDactive.

Ask him why ALL the good bits of I Robot, were in the trailer. Leaving no surprises in the main feature!

Maybe ask him about the problems he has with Fox (apparently he'll never work with them again while Tom Rothman is in charge), and how this kind of situation reflects on Hollyowood as a a whole.

From what I remember of the reports of the time, Proyas wanted complete creative control over the Special Edition DVD. He asked for this as he didn't want Lee's death exploited in any kind of ghoulish way on the DVD extras. He was granted this and recorded a commentary and, allegedly, put together an exhaustive documentary detailing up to a few days before Lee's death.

At the time there was supposedly going to be yet another sequel and, if you choose to believe it, internal politics from that bled over into the production of the DVD and Proyas' control was yanked. As such, he walked away and took both the commentary and documentary with him which is why he makes no contribution at all to the DVD.

I think the person he had problems with was Producer Jeff Most. Anyhow, that's what I read, perhaps Proyas would be willing to confirm or deny it now so much time has passed. If it is correct, will we ever see the documentary or commentary released?

how about ...

"how did the death of brandon lee affect you personally, are you on good terms with Brandon's family and what were the wider repercussions with regards to the production and release of the film"

or

"is there any particular reason you aren't that prolific in the number of films you've made"

I personally would be interested in hearing his views on whether he had to dumb down SF for hollywood blockbusters and whether he plans to make another independent SF like Dark City where he must have had more control.

Also whether he has read Harlan Ellison's excellent I, Robot script and if so, why couldn't they have used that.

The video for the song "Kiss The Dirt" is one of my favourite rock videos of all time. What was it like filming it in the desert with INXS?"
