And with the sale of Traore it means that Riise is pretty much stuck at LB for the moment rather than his more dangerous position on the left of midfield. Suddenlly we look a little short on the left after being overloaded last season and plenty of options on the right (Pennant, Gerrard, Garcia, Kronkamp and Anderson.) It's odd ho it all shifts with a couple of signings and a few injuries....

I think most people will prefer to be stuck with Riise back at LB rather than Bambi

I would stick Gerrard on the left rather than Zenden and put Pennant on the right. I would play Garcia upfront with Crouch.
Reina
Finnan - Carragher - Hyypia - Riise
Pennant - Sissoko - Alonso - Gerrard
Crouch - Garcia.

We have 3 left backs...
Riise
Aurelio
Warnock
Left Wingers
Kewell
Riise
Gonzales
Warnock
Zenden
Considering they're all left footed, I actually think we're more overloaded on the left then anywhere else.
Need to see the subs bench to see what cover we have...not sure who's injured.
Aurelio
Gonzales
Kewell... anyone else injured?

Interesting if true. I know that Agger, Fowler, and Aurellio are injured - but no Pennant?
That makes it look like Gerrard on the right.

Other than Zenden, thats our strongest side in my opinion. Gerrard is better than Pennant on the right, Sissoko and Alonso are our strongest midfield pair, so I dont see where you can accomodate Pennant in our strongest 4-4-2. I dont think its conservative.

Warnock is injured. That leaves Riise only at LB and therefore only Zenden at LW who is coming back from an injury. We may have plenty of players but we don't currently have many options....

We could always go back 3...
We've done it before away at Newcastle last season and it was very effective.
Reina
Carragher Hypia Paletta
Finnan Riise
Sissoko
Gerrard Alonso
Crouch Bellamy
That would work...although not knowing much about this team we're playing not sure what their strengths are.
To be honest though, Riise is made of steel and it's rare for him not to be playing.

Wouldn't want to throw in Paletta tonight - would rather go with the tried and trusted backline from last season.

Zenden played well in the preseason games I watched. He seems back to fitness and was linking up well.
Although he may have been played in the middle in one of those games?

Bit of a defensive looking 3-5-2 that, it's more like a 5-3-2 as Finnan and Riise would probably play in exactly the same way as they would in a 4-4-2. If we ever go for 3 at the back, I'd want to see Momo, Xabi and Gerrard in the middle with Pennant and Gonzales as wingers.
Oh and Garcia is also left footed and could play left midfield if required

Dont think we could really afford to have many more players in those positions, we have quite a few injuries at the moment and still manage to field 2 good players in their correct position, so I think we are pretty set. If we happen to lose more, we would have to start playing people out of position, but we would still cope- Garcia/Gerrard to LW and Carragher to LB (moving someone else into the center).

You also have to wonder at the severity of some of the injuries. I'm sure a few are quite minor but they don't want to risk aggrevating them before the season really starts.

Certainly I don't think Aurelio's or Speedy's injuries are too bad.
Kewell's will take slightly longer apparently.

Liverpool are likely to be without Robbie Fowler (knee) and Fabio Aurelio (calf) while Daniel Agger (ankle) and Mark Gonzalez (calf) are doubts.
