We shouldn't. Not what we need. If we didn't have Garcia, fine, would be a great buy, but we do, and no-way should he be sent packing for Aimar.....

That was the rumour before he went to the WC but whilst he's been there he's been saying that Villa should join him at Liverpool, so I'd say that the rumour was rollocks.

Jose thinks Crouch would be a mistake against Portugal ;
Jose's view
I don't think Crouch will start but I don't remember Carvalho owning him in those matches. While he's dishing out advice, perhaps Sven should phone him and ask how he intended to make Lampard and Gerrard work together for Chelsea!

My point was, if we had the money he'd be a great addition to the squad, but we cant afford to buy him as we have other positions to fill.

According to Koptalk Aurellio will be joining up in a few days on a Bosman, and will be joined for pre season training by Bellamy and Gabriel Paletta.
Also, Rafa's alledgedly been told there'll be no money for Kuyt if we go ahead with the Alves deal.

The way I read it, the Portuguese "special needs one" doesn't want Crouch to play, because he wants his home country to win

this Aurellio
Quote:
Fabio Aurelio will officially become a Liverpool player in a few days time.
The 27-year-old Brazilian left back has been snapped up by Rafa on a Bosman (free) transfer.
He's already agreed personal terms and all the necessary documentation has been sorted but he can't become a Red until July 1st. That's when he will sign his 4-year contract.
Aurelio will be joined at pre-season training next week which will be attended by non-World Cup players including Gabriel Paletta and Craig Bellamy.

In these days of Russian billionaires, biggest no longer means richest ... and until some sort of wage/"total salary" capping is introduced this not going to change for a very long time.
But Rafa's progress with the team over the last 2 years does show that he doesn't necessarily need big money players.
When you think about, if we get Alves, then we'd have been spending £30M this summer alone on 3 players if he bought Kuyt as well - they're are not many Premiership sides who can spend that amount of money in one window without selling at the same time.

The new Zizou - sorry Bruno Cheyrou - has joined Rennes on a rumoured 3 year permanent deal.
Good to get him finally off the wage bill, but I will refuse to totally slate him if only for the fantastic WINNING goal at Stamford Bridge - the last LFC player to do that mind - not too many years ago.

at £10M who would you rather have - attack minded Simao or Defender-cum-winger Alves? (i have never seen the latter play)?
When i read this I wondered if it was posturing to break the stalemate over Alves

Alves looked quite tasty in the Uefa Cup Final. Mind you it was only against Boro.

But if you've never seen Alves play, how can you make the decision which you'd rather have?

Simao will cost a lot more than £10M given that we couldn't buy him at more than that price before.
And Alves is a winger-cum-defender or do you really think Rafa is going to spend £10M on a player who is going to play out of position ?

Gonzalez might be being a bit hasty here...
Trabesi is a good player but if we are keeping Kronkamp, I don't see how we can keep 3 fullbacks happy.
