I'd agree with john316 except I can't because he should have scored the one on one when he was put through the middle towards the end of the game. Even Crouch would have put that away. And he fluffed all his chances 4-3-3 or not! £3-5 million maybe but no more.
And for Alves, if Sevilla dicking us around then stuff it. player will suffer not us.

Agree kind of Tiga, but our record of signing decent players is getting dodgy. Simao, Kuyt (no matter what we now think of him), Alves, Figo (not sorry about that!) should of all been in the bag and it just didn't happen. We need progress on the right wing and upfront, class solid deals for players of Alonso's quality. Crouchy was a real find no doubt and can't wait for Gonzales to arrive. However I am worried we aren't going to sign anything worth talking about before the season starts.

But how would he cope in the oft used 4-4-1-1 system ?
Also, has Rafa actually ever said Kuyt was an option ??

He said "Kuyt is a player I like". Kuyt is obviously a good player even though he is not a top world class forward yet. I would still sign him, we have Crouch and Fowler already, even if he is 3rd choice it's still a good signing. One of the 2 spanish forwards would be my preference though.

i dont think we have the money to buy any more strikers, as we have Bellamy now, the only way we are going to sign another striker is if Cisse & Sinama-Pongolle are sold,
i dont think we can afford to buy Villa or Torres , enless there is a major shakeup of our squad, i dont think we will have more then 20M too spend on players this summer,
i think we will buy one more player ( winger) for about 10M - either Alves or Simao, and that will be it , enless we get some on free transfers dealing

There were rumours, on Friday night/Saturday morning, that tomorrow was going to be "D Day" so to speak - I, for one, am going to wait until then.
And now Holland are out of the WC - we'll probably see a lot more movement on the Kuyt front if that is who Rafa wants.
Spain still being in gives, hopefully, Xabi and Luis more time to sweet-talk Torres and/or Villa into move to a new club

Yeah, I don't reckon they'll be many more clubs knocking down Feyenoords door after last nights display.

According to good old Koptalk (and not their insider page, which means it's probably common knowledge amongst the media) ... Liverpool will hear on the 5th July if Gonzalez is getting a permit.

Reported in today's Echo:
Quote:
Reds D-day for winger
By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo
MARK GONZALEZ will discover next week if he can begin his Liverpool career.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez and chief executive Rick Parry will attend a hearing which determines if the Chile winger has been given a work permit.
A specially convened panel assembled by the department for education and employment will decide the case.
If Gonzalez gets the go-ahead, he can begin pre-season training with the rest of the squad.
The hearing takes place on Wednesday, July 5

Going back a bit I wouldn't want Aimar INSTEAD of Garcia. Aimar is fantastic but Luis is a special player, despite his faults. There are not many players in the world that can have an impact or win games like him on such a regular basis. He has done so much for us and his goal against Chelsea this year in the F.A. Cup was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in the game. He loves us, the players and the club and we love him.

balstino, have you just fallen in love?
I remember you having a strange choice in strikers before but your posts have taken an even stranger turn to the weird recently!

Naaah, just rate Garcia that's all. Cracks me up the way he talks on the DVD interviews "That was a very beautiful goal" "I like to score nice goals" some of his artistry is rubbing off on me!!!

Aimar is a lot better at passing then Garcia will ever be...
He actually links the play. Goal scoring wise, I'd say they're probably similar...

Realistically, if Aimar is only available for £5m we should snap him up, but we seem to be struggling for cash all the time so its just not gonna happen
