According to the BBC we are leading the race to sign Kuyt but Sky Kuyt's agent is denying he is talking to any clubs about him signing for them.
But also on the BBC there is a video of an interview with Kuyts agent talking about him wanting to move to Liverpool and play in the premiership.
So it's either a really slow news day or something is going on??

Was just gonna post that as well Stu, does sound suspect?! It's obvious that the agent definitely wants to get a move done, whatever his motivations. Sounds like Kuyt is keen on it, sounds like we are as well. Sounds like Feyenoord aren't bothered unless the big dollar comes.

According to Sky we are also now interested in Esteban Granero. If we got him cheap he could be a great buy (he could also be *****). Arsenal lucked out when they got Cesc from Barcelona when he was young and cheap.
But it will probably all come to nothing like all the rumours about our transfer targets so far this summer.

Seems Pennant is back in the picture for £6m, if we can get Kuyt for £8m or less, maybe we can afford both?

We've had a net spend of ~£3m this summer, cleared a lot of high wage earners off the books (plus whatever we had to pay off Cheyrou, etc), so there should be enough there for both.
The money we were prepared to pay for Simao/Owen from last August should still be around at the very least.

was certainly playing high up the pitch against Middlesborough in the UEFA Cup.
£12m for a right back sounds expensive to me.

I actually heard the interview with Kuyt's agent on 5 Live yesterday evening. He was very cagey but upfront about the reasons - there is interest from clubs in Spain and England. It would be foolish to express an interest in 1 club if ultimately the deal might be done elsewhere. He implied strongly Liverpool were in the frame and confirmed the price is less than £10M

a press report on worldfootballers.com (I am not linking to that site as it's rubbish and it will hurt your eyes).
Quote:
Rafa Benitez might be set to land Valencia midfielder Rufete after he left the Spanish giants by mutual consent today

He was alright when he played for Valencia under Rafa so for free it might not be a bad deal. He could be a decent squad/back up player (He can play in the center or on the RW) - if there is any truth at all in the story.

apparantly Kuyt's club want £13.2M now and we are unlikely to stump up for it (as quoted in Ceefax by Kuyt agent!)- man this is getting confusing!

That would be an insane price. Even Chelski in their second summer of Abramovich paid nowhere near that ((~ 8 M?) for a similar striking sensation (goals per game in the eridiversie) Kezman.
That would be insane. For 13.2 we could actually get Yakubu/Bent and know we were getting a good Prem player (yes, bent has only done it for one season but hes young, strong pacey and good at getting in position - high hopes for him).

He's also signed a new deal for us
Try for around £15m next year & you might be lucky
Any more news from your end about Traore?

Well obviously we are very reluctant to part with a versatile, pacey defender, who is a Champions League winner, after all.
We'll generously swap him for Bent and won't even demand any cash on top of that

In your dreams
Maybe if you also chuck in Gerrard
Although we might do a deal where we swap Lisbie for Traore.
Naturally you will have to chuck in lots of cash as well
