Basically it's a windows codec package including support for most anything. It's the only codec I install on my machine. Although I usually prefer to use VLC instead of WMP because I can guarantee it will get aspect ratios correct, etc.

Here's one I haven't seen on here. For those who really need to know if their email has been received and read. MSGTAG fits the bill. It's free and will notify the sender when an email has been opened and read.
Multiple accounts, too. Supposed o work with any email software, although
I've only tried it on Outlook and Incredimail.

Big fan of Webroot`s Spy Sweeper, BUT...I recently read a review and tried, GIANT's AntiSpyware and I have to say I think I`m converted!

Seems to pick up more malware than anything else, the shields are excellent (even detecting changes to the context menu!) and allthough its a little bit paranoid (it picks up dameware as malware...suppose it is in a way!) it defaults to ignore malware that it recognises to be a low threat. Oh yeah, it give findings threat ratings and you can submit your findings to SpyNet from the client, if you so desire.

Give it a go!

This app as just downloaded with out me being able to select its destination did it do the same for you. I can't find it when searching ?

Used to use CDex but this app absolutely trounces it for speed. Might be my PC, CD drive or ASPI config. Registered version is the fastest.

A list of invaluable extensions for me:

- Download status bar (http://downloadstatusbar.mozdev.org/). Sticks the download manager in the browser status bar.

- Ad Block (http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=10). Natch. Wildcard blocking (e.g. http://www.someadserver.com/*) blocks all ads whose URL fits the wildcard. Utterly priceless.

- Single Window (http://update.mozilla.org/extensions...x&id=50&vid=53). Stops things like Outlook from opening a new window every time you click a link - opens a new tab instead.

- Web Developer (http://www.chrispederick.com/work/firefox/webdeveloper/). Adds a new toolbar to the top of firefox (you can hide it) that has things like "view/edit (in real-time) the css of the page you're on", "view table cells on this page", "validate page", "remove images" etc)

- Super drag and go (http://superdragandgo.mozdev.org/). Click on a link in a page, drag it off itself (i.e. into a blank bit of the page) and release to open the link in a new tab. Really speeds up browsing

- IE View (http://ieview.mozdev.org/). Adds "view this page in IE" to the context-menu. Useful for cross-dev and for viewing sites made by morons who don't cross-dev.

- Easy gestures (http://easygestures.mozdev.org/). Still getting used to this. Adds a circular, configurable menu to the middle-mouse that yuo can add "back", "forward", "home" etc to. Cuts down on moving to buttons to click them.

- *invaluable* Tabbrowser extensions (http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/). Complete control of tabs - reorder them by dragging, double click to close/open a new one, adds a % loaded bar to the tab while loading and tons more. You need this one.

It's shareware I believe, but I've been running it for the last week and haven't seen a nag box or anything yet... it's so good I think I'll be registering it. Similar to Kapsules which is donationware but needs the .NET framework installed to run on XP, Konfabulator doesn't.

That's neat. I like it.

I've been playing around with desktop shell replacements to get a nice looking desktop but they're a lot of hassle and have problems (because of replacing Explorer). This is neater as it just sits on top with loadable widgets, plus looks nice.

It's been nagging me a fair bit now. For a while I could close the nag window but now it won't let me.

nmap- check what ports are open on your machines
Nessus- network security scanner that finds network vulnerabilities and tells u where to finds the patch, or the workaround/solution
Ethereal - network monitoring tool, to see your passwords going in clear text along the wire.
gfi languard network security scanner - same as nessus just less likely to crash your machine
windows update
mbsa - computer security analyser to tell you what patches are missing on your windows boxes
naviscope - used to be available but dont know what happened to the website, still useful though if you can find a copy
finjan - stops lots of malicous stuff from running, latest version is 30 days only...
ad aware 6 - i dont have to say anything about this
firefox - as above
thunderbird -as above
poweroff - tool for shutting down and waking up Wake on LAN network cards and other stuff.
mandrake 10.1 - nuff said

Test disk basically looked at the hard disk that I'd managed to, erm... make disappear and it sorted out the partitions as they had been before the muck up.

Saved lots of time downloading again.

Konfabulator - just downloaded this thanks to this thread and looks like it will come in very handy

dBpowerAMP - all my music is now ripped and converted using this software

Shutdown - a handy utility that places a shortcut in the taskbar to shutdown your computer when it is double-clicked (can be configured to standby, restart, etc)

Winamp - have gone back to using this great player for listening to music

DVDIdle Pro - a great piece of software that can read a DVD and store its info to cache or harddisk for playback to preserve the life of your drive (and your laptop battery), also makes your dvd player region-free and will remove some code restricting copying of some cds/dvds, plus a lot of another neat little features - highly recommended

Nero - simply the best cd/dvd burning software

Window Washer - you won't believe the amount of crap this deletes from your system (especially if running it for the very first time)

Zoom Player - now my media player of choice for playing all sorts of video files

Google Toolbar - is an excellent pop-up blocker (don't think i have ever received a pop-up since using it)

Norton Password Manager - handy tool for storing (yep you guessed it) passwords and other valuable info

Crap Cleaner - Cleans up all kinds of stuff, not just the regular temp and cache files but stuff in known apps, and cleans out redundant information the registry.
