Router or network card broken ?

I left my PC on the other night when we had the really heavy storms and lightning , anyway when i came back upstairs to my PC later in the evening i noticed that my Router will not now connect via the network card it works fine when its in USB mode thats how im using the internet now.

Is there any way to check the network card or router to see if its broken its a onboard one that came with the PC, im not sure if it had anything to do with the thunder and lightning

I was going to go to argos tomorrow to pick on up so i could test but its not available as the new catalogue has come out and its vanished

it could be either.

look in "device manager" and see what that says about your NIC (does it show up as normal?), also look at the back of your computer where the network cable plugs in and check what indicators are lit up (if any).

You can pick up a cheap (but reasonable) NIC for under a fiver from many places which would let you definately rule out either the NIC or the router.

There are no yellow question marks on the network card in device manager , the router/modem works fine in USB mode, there isnt a light on the port either.

I guess im gonna have to get hold of a network card so i can test.

EDIT: Just looked on Ebay can get one for around Ł4 might as well get one.
