My little sis, somehow managed to install some lop malware on her computer. Is really slowing it all down and keeps playing with her homepage and has put a toolbar on her outlook.

Have tried adaware, spybot, and spy sweeper, none of which work! Spent hours on the net trying to find fixes, but cant get my head around them!

when i try and download the uninstall programme from the lop website - i get swizzor4.c trojan warning from my AVG

help needed please.......

i use these 3 too, and spyblaster or something like that. The microsoft one is great, i had a problem with a trojan last week and it fixed it. Tempted to pay for it if they start charging

I just installed Webroot's SpySweeper and it found a bunch of stuff that neither Adaware, SpyBot or MS's Anti-spam thing had found.

Spyware Eliminator 4 seems to be the top dog according to a few reviews I've seen.

Has anyone used it?

Yeap, I had that yesterday. Adaware detected the Spybotsd.exe file as Spyware and wanted to delete it!

Not sure whats wrong with mine. Problems started about a week ago, this 180searchassistant thing got on the computer started messing things up, for some reason it was in the list of add/remove programs so i got rid of but it was back the next day. Something keeps messing around with the security setting on IE, i have them on default and somethings changing them to custom, which does something to the active x and cookies (says i need to enable them) but when i change it back to default and refresh its ok, but messed up again next time i turn computer on. have spybot at the mometn and the msn toolbar which supposedly blocks pop ups.
any ideas on what it is and best way to tackle it? really getting to me more than the usual ads which come up when IE is open, these are switching to desktop from games and causing some to crash, especially hl2 which doesnt like being minimized.

Do you guys not find that adaware and spybot are both woefully inadequate these days? I installed spy sweeper last night and it found 43 tracking cookies, 1 serious piece of spyware and 83 partially removed pieces of spyware. Spybot doesn't pick up on that much anymore and adaware only seems to pick up on cookies.

Had an interesting one at work last week actually, the one machine was absolutely infested with spyware, had thousands of pieces on it. What was interesting though is when we tried scanning with spybot windows starts shutting down. It gives an alert box that windows will shut down in 50 seconds or so. It did that each time we tried to start up spybot.

Needed to be formatted in the end.

With XP and SP2 I don't get any spyware apart from cookies so Ad-Aware is prefectly adequate for me.

OK really hacked off now tried about everything on the list and still have many problems. Got 4 or 5 things running in the background supposedly blocking various things but theres still some toolbar that keeps coming back no matter what i do to it. Still something changing the security settings, such as ActiveX controls, so i get the message on some sites like this that my setting do now allow me to use them so the page may not display correctly. Get this flippin message come up ever so often about C:\bla.exe or whatever but it wont let me delete that. I would pay and get a decent product but i just dont think it would make a difference for the ridiculously high price they are. Still get 180searchassistant and when you go to uninstall it they go on about sorry and please come again and all the other bull and its just back there the next day to wind me up even more. also have a websearchtoolbar which does exactly the same. also ISTsvc or something. dont know if the names help but im really at the end of my tether with all this rubbish thats goin on my computer and annoying me even when im not on the net.

E: if theres no other progs to try etc could i reset the whole internet thing in some way, sorry for the rant btw

I have tried deleting cookies, scanned the P.C, used Adwware & Spybot with no relative sucess, everytime I log onto the net, it just goes back to the
Googlxxx site.

What can i do to get ride of this problem , I use Win Xp . Has anyone else had this problem ?

Possibly your 'hosts' file has been hijacked.

Go to Windows/System32/Drivers/etc and in there you'll find a file called 'hosts'. Open this up in notepad. It should look like this...

If there are any other lines at the bottom, you probably want to delete them (unless you deliberately have put entries in there). They basically cause lookups for google.com to be redirected elsewhere.

Save the file and reboot.

However you may have some spyware application installed that will re-write the file again. Possibly you've deleted it at some point though if none of the anti-spyware apps are finding it.

I was recently having minor problems with some tracking cookies still being picked up by Ad-aware even though Spywareblaster should have been removing them. I have since installed cookiewall from analog x and added the 3 offending tracking cookies to the delete automatically section. Now when I run Ad-aware,Spybot and Spyware Doctor I receive zero infection results everytime. My system is still running stable as well.

Lots of other interesting programs at Analog X.
