I'd started downloading my firewall of choice - Comodo - and I saw that it's now a monster 220MB download !

I remember reading that Win7+ doesn't really need a firewall, but I like to see (& control) what's making outbound connections, which the default Windows app doesn't do.

A quick google gave me this - Windows Firewall Notifier - adds notification and auto-block for all outbounds, using the default firewall.

Comodo 5.12 still works fine on Win 8.1, has none of the bloat crap of the latter releases

Comodo was using shed loads of RAM on my W7 install so I uninstalled it and started using one called PrivateFirewall 7.0, which after research on Google is very slim on system resources. Seems to work pretty well too. Nice and easy to understand.

This might be useful in cleaning friend's machines that have all manner of intrusive browser toolbars installed - I've noticed that so many freeware apps have these in their setup these days.

Anyone know what will get rid of Binkiland.

Run malware bytes and other stuff says ok, run spyhunter 4 and says its still there, done system restore, do I pay the $39 to use spyhunter top get rid.

It's binkiland browser hijacker I have.

Result : Avast > AVG > Panda > MSE

Well, the CNET installer didn't seem to play nicely with my Windows firewall notifier, so here's the direct download link (146mb) from files.avast.com

Will this still hold true with Windows 10 ?
Looking to update everything on PC and just left trying decide what anti virus go for ?

Bitdefender is working fine for me in Windows 10. Unless something has changed recently Bitdefender and Kaspersky seem to be the top AVs.

edit: Oops sorry didn't notice "free". BD can be had for about a tenner a year any way.

Virus detection is probably less OS-dependent and more to do with virus signatures and that heuristic/predictive behaviour ability. Can't comment on W10 performance though.

I switched from a very good relationship with MSE over to Avast (Win7), after the missus came home with a memory stick full of nasties. More intrusive and heavier than MSE, till I turned off a couple of the active monitoring functions (I don't stray from 'standard' websites any more). Now I don't notice it at all.

Just as an FYI Kaspersky works fine on Win10

Is anyone having any issues with Bitdefender Total Security 2016 today? I booted my Windows 10 PC up to a blue screen this morning which meant I had to factory reset the PC, which was fine until I reinstalled Bitdefender. Then it wouldn't boot again, not even into safe mode. It was fine yesterday so maybe they've done some update that's broken something?

Apparently Symantec (oooh) but I'd still go for Kaspersky.

I would have recommended Avast (we use that at work) however, their support is both atrocious (they only recently supported Win 10 with their commercial Avast software, while the free was compatible...) but also good (they respond quickly if you receive malware in emails that Avast doesn't pick up on). Overall, their software is quite pants (the enterprise console is horrible).

Use something like Aomei Backupper or Macrium Reflect to take an image of your PC before installing an anti-virus. Nothing worse than finding an issue and then having to uninstall AV software - some can be really stubborn or even cause blue-screening / dead PCs, etc. Always handy to have a backup.

anyone know what the best malware program is to remove Pwwysydh, i read online ways f removing it but the steps they've shown are different to what i'm actually seeing ... ?

any help would be greatly appreciated
