Time Bandits
I believe that the R2 has some lip-sync problems. Does anyone know if these have now been fixed?

The lip-sync problems are only on the 5.1 audio track - just watch it with the ordinary surround track as this sounds better anyway

I was going to buy it because I don't have a sound system so I can't (yet) appreciate 5.1/DTS in all its glory. Perhaps if I stopped buying DVDs, I might be able to afford a system! I was just curious as to whether the problems with this release had been fixed just in case I do get to upgrade.

The lip sync is only out for a short while, and besides it's still better than the Criterion, given it has the same and more extras and is anamorphic (and you get the map as well !)

I emailed AB UK and they denied knowledge that there were any problems with the title. To be honest, it did seem player dependent; on one of my players the interview was out of synch too, on the other, it was fine.
In the great scheme of things, no biggie.

So John, would you recommend getting TB after all? I have a Pioneer player.

Well, the problems (minor though they were - the mono mix is preferable) were on my LG; my Pioneer still showed lip sych probs with the 5.1 mix during the film, but not during the interview.
As I said, no biggie - just buy it!

How long does the problem last please? I had assumed that the lip sync was off for the entire film according to reports I've read.

Starts from around the Titanic sequence IIRC and continues to the end; but then again, how long it lasts and from where it starts (and ends) could again be player dependent.

Will the new R1 have the commentary? In which case, I'll probably go for that one.

On my Sony 325 it definitely loses it around the Titanic scene but then seems to recover a few scenes later and certainly doesn't last until the end of the film. Could be the layer change sorts it out, but I can't remember where it is now.
I'd still stick with the R2 over the far more expensive Criterion just for the anamorphic print alone, but given the extras as well, the lip-sync problem is only a minor issue.

Good point!
I never thought of that. I'm sure I can do that somewhere. Might take me three weeks to plough through the thousands of pages of manual though (90% of which are in every language on the planet!)

Ah, but that only works for when the sound is ahead of the video, the amp can delay the sound, but it can't play sound it hasn't been sent from the player yet .

I think this may be already available as a separate disc in the US (part of a series called, unsurprisingly, The Directors).
