There is an 'availability of full fibre' checker on their site and it is currently down as register your interest for my post code.

I have no particular allegiance to BT ( except for the reduced BT Sport subscription but that is not a reason to stay ) though I am tied to them until just before Hey allegedly are starting up in my area

Sounds like the decision is made. I would be wary of the dates though

Right, the first thing you're gonna need to do is cancel that PornHub subscription and start signing up to the studios and star websites so you can have access to the 4K stuff! 1080p is for losers!

Seriously though in terms of cabling it's the cable standard rather than the connectors you need to check up on, so rj45 connectors are OK but the cable between them may not. It might be a good idea to upgrade if you only have Cat5 cabling.

B4RN - highly recommended if you're in the (very limited) area. Friend has had 1gig up/down for 5+ years, rock solid, Ł30/month.

You can even have an upgrade to 10Gbps, but we’ve yet to find anyone who would know what to do with that!

Damn, never realised that was possible

Wrong end of the country

As for the 10Gbps, over the past couple of days I have been reading similar things about the need for just 1Gbps

It’s crazy the sort of speeds some people can get these days.

I still remember thinking all my Christmases had come at once a few years back when I switched from Pipex (TalkTalk) which was supposed to be 1.5mb down, but was actually .75mb down and switching to Sky and suddenly getting 2.8mb

It’s also a bit ridiculous that some people are in the position to get 10 gig, whilst in other areas of the country people struggle to even get 10mb.

10gig as consumer is extremely rare - would be fairly hard to utilise as well

I think i'm still stuck at 28mbs here. I wouldn't mind if I was out in the boondocks somewhere but I'm smack dab in the middle of the country! People around me can have infinity 2 though, but not sure if they can go any faster.
