Anyone give me the lowdown of The Dark Tower series, what genre/is it about, any particular order etc?
Never been overly fussed, but have read a lot of King over the last few years so is interesting me a little bit more.

It's a dark fantasy mixed with a western. It follows a protagonist called Roland who is pretty much based on Clint Eastwood, on a quest. Start with The Gunslinger, that's book 1.

Some of his finest writing. I have dipped my toe but find it a bit daunting as there is so much!

Just coming to the end of The Gunslinger which I've been putting off because I'm not massively into the Fantasy genre.
Being as The Dark Tower is generally classed as Kings Magnum Opus, I wanted to see what the fuss was about.
I've quite enjoyed it and now I'm looking forward to to reading the rest of the series as many fans comment that the 1st book is the weakest entry in the series.

oh god, to read that series fresh again!
you are in for a treat, and have the advantage of not having to wait 10 years between books like us at the time!
yeah the 2nd book is the "man this really got going" one

I know what you mean, how you envy others when they say I'm just starting Breaking bad, Game of Thrones etc..
I guess as you say this is magnified even more as it was 10 years.
........I've just started The drawing of the three

Just finished the final book in the Bill Hodges trilogy and honestly found the final installment quite the letdown.

Yes the third of the Trilogy is definitely the weaker Book. I sort of Enjoyed it but I know what you mean.

I have now finished all the 8 books of the Dark Tower and thoroughly enjoyed them.
As a reader who doesn't generally like fantasy I was pleasantly surprised, possibly because it is so character driven like a lot Kings Books.
I agree with the general consensus that the first 4 books are better than the others, but I still also enjoyed the last 4 books.
I highly recommend The dark Tower Series and the characters in them will stay with me forever.

Can I cheekily request if any of you are looking to clear space, I'm on the lookout for Stephen King books to complete my collection. I'm sure I've brought this subject up before, and someone was going to dig out a box of books from their loft, but I think that was some years ago now and the search function is not playing ball for me.
Ideally I would be looking for hardbacks in good condition with their dust jackets, but I wouldn't totally reject paperbacks.
I'm planning a chronological read through, with the first book I'm missing being The Stand.
I really do hope some of you have some books you'd be happy to part with...I've been trawling charity shops with no luck at all and the Amazon marketplace lottery has already burnt me with a terrible condition Bachman Books turning up when it was supposed to be very good.

That's fairly uncommon for Amazon marketplace books, they're normally better than they say.
