"Singin' in the rain" 50th anniversary special edition?

Hiya,

This disc is in the BOGOF HMV offer (or was last time I went there). A quick look at Play lists the following special features:

Quote:
Audio commentary from Debbie Reynolds, Donald O'Connor, Cyd Charisse, Rita Moreno and screenwriters Betty Comden and Adolph Green

'Musicals Great Musicals: The Arthur Feed Unit At MGM: a documentary about the career of producer songwriter Arthur Feed (80 mins)

'What A Glorious Feeling': a new documentary about the making and impact of this landmark movie (30 mins)

'The Songwriter's Review With Freed And Brown' feature (60 mins)

'You Are My Lucky Star' out-take

Stills gallery

Scoring stage options

Singin' Inspirations (text feature with branching)

Theatrical trailer
It all sounds good and the commentary and documentaries sound quite tempting.

Does anyone, however, know whether the picture is a marked improvement over the previous release? I already own the regular DVD and since, ultimately, it's the film itself I love and watch time and again, an identical picture would mean that I would probably be happy not to upgrade.

I haven't seen the original release but I can confirm what Richie says that the new edition looks absolutely superb

Further confirmation if any was required - http://www.dvdfile.com/software/revi...intherain.html

Hmm, buy one get one free, you say? Must have a closer look through the HMV sale.

It is simply extraordinary. Review on the way when I can think of how to comment on it without drowning in superlatives.

One of the best DVD sets ... ever ... period.

It's also available cheap in R4 ATM. I picked mine up in Myers for $A19.
