I hope not. De Gea is better than that. He saved our bacon today from the little I watched.

The transfer fees for goalkeepers have always been strange. Apart from the Buffon deal the fees are much lower for established keepers with only a handful ever costing more than £15m. A comparable example is Neuer who moved to Bayern at 25 for £19m when he had 12 months left on his contract. If an offer comes in for £45m they either have to accept it or get De Gea to commit to at least a 4-year contract.

So we're back to the phase where we feel sorry for the teams we beat? The tactic against us since the Chelsea game is have two marking Fellaini, don't give anyone a second on the ball and catch us on the counter if we ever try to take a different route... the problem is LVG's plan B is to just constantly pass it between defence and midfield all game waiting for the opponents to tire... today was the first time it (luckily) paid off. Palace deserved 1, maybe even 3 points!

As for DDG/Bale... we'd probably need to pay another £30m or so on top for Bale, and after seeing him the last few games for RM he's really not worth it at all. Did absolutely nothing against Juventus and has been almost as invisible in their game this evening.
So many times this season DDG has been the difference between 0 and 3pts... Bale certainly won't replace that.

I honestly wouldn't mind if we got some cheaper deal to keep Falcao for another year and didn't bring in any more forwards over the summer. I think we'll see a different side to Falcao once the midfield can actually afford/is capable of counter attacking.
IMO all we need now is a truly world class centre back and a world class holding midfielder. Bring Hernandez back, sell RVP, sell Nani and throw as much as we can at Juventus for Pogba... although I'd put RM, Chelsea, Barca and City ahead of us in that race... especially if the Guardiola rumours are true about the latter :/

Yeah, the champions

It boggles the mind that you think I would show bias towards either of these mid-table teams...

Even Neville said it was a penalty

It certainly can be argued that was not a penalty and you can see why in real time heat of moment not given, but yep, I sat there in my replica shirt and the name I got after one of the all time greats, and thought it was a penalty when slowed down and shown again

Some time back, when the Adidas deal was announced, there was suggestion that they would want us to have a marquee signing of an "Adidas" player they could use for promotion etc (think it may even have been on here I read it)

Has there been anymore on this ?
With financial fair play etc would they be allowed to buy us a player / give us the money (on top of what they give in sponsorship) ? Would they pay for Bale to come to United ?

Watched Puncheon on motd a few times and there's no way on God's green earth that's a penalty. No way. Definite dive and yellow card. The Mata pen was a little generous too.

I thought they were both pens and if Thierry agrees, that's good enough for me!

Indeed. You can't conclusively state it one way or the other really. Even looking a dozen times doesn't really clear things up. What can be stated for sure though, is he ballsed up any chance of getting a penalty, with his theatrical dive. For that reason alone he didn't deserve a pen, so I'm happy enough to concede it wasn't one.

Yes. Private companies, out of the goodness of their hearts and above any agreed commercial deals could buy you an 80m player for free and FFP obviously wouldn't apply.
In fact, one of City's Arab sponsors could spend 500m on players for City, and this would circumvent FFP. What a great idea, I'm surprised nobody's thought of this before and put something in FFP regulations to stop it happening....

I'm sorry for asking a question now
It's just something I can remember being asked at the time

Think United have Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Blind and RVP (who may even go in the summer) that are Adidas sponsored players themselves. None of them big faces for Adidas in the grand scheme of things.

Was just asking really how the sponsorship deals work
Would Adidas want United to have a player who was a bigger name so to speak to plaster over their advertising displays ?

Would this have any bearing on us wanting / getting Bale ? (A player I think be nice to have but not at the expensive of 80 million or part ex with DDG)

Who knows what goes on behind the scenes with these deals- I'd have thought it would be United who hold all the cards in these kind of scenarios though....

Wasn't Di Maria the marquee Adidas sponsored signing?

Wasn't there even talk that Memphis Depay might not be straightforward as he only recently signed up as an Under Armour athlete? Didn't seem to be a problem.

In terms of financial assistance from Adidas, I seem to recall something about assistance with wages via, presumably image rights money or something topping up wages. No idea if that is actually feasible.

Well that should do it for the top 4 - time to start worrying about the qualifying round?
