That's a good idea to include the Air Communication cut of the Eden of the East series. It's probably the full series minus the credit sequences, so you effectively get the first series with the movie. Would work better in a movie cut too. I pre-ordered this on Blu-ray from Amazon, but they only have one edition listed (and it's no longer orderable now), and it doesn't specify which version it is. I'd imagine that the Air Communication edition however would be a 2-disc set?

I would think 2-discs. The DVD certainly is.

Pure speculation on my part (trying to confirm) but I think the decision to release 2 versions on each format is fairly recent and is probably yet to filter through to retailers. OR the info we have is wrong and they'll just go with one version on each format (with Air Communication included as standard).

I've had Akira on pre-order for a month or two now. I don't want to watch my DVD now so I can bathe in the "Duurrr, durrr, hee, herrr, hee, herrr" audio goodness... (2m06)
So I listened to it through youtube!

We're expecting the Blu-ray of Akira quite soon so I can report back then. I'm guessing it's the super duper audio from the US release you're interested in? I think that's what they're referring to by 'Hypersonic' audio.

Updated with the Blu-ray specs for Eden of the East & Eva 2.22. I think Madman continue to have a part in the authoring of these discs as when you select the 'Trailers' in the extras menu the reel begins with an Australian piracy advert and the various trailers that follow have the Australian age ratings.

Yeah thats right, but the press release only mentions English 5.1, not Japanese.

I think those are the DVD specs you've seen, as the press release only lists the DVD specs (or at least the one I've seen).

Anyway, got the disc and updated with specs. I haven't seen the US disc personally, but going over Matt's review:

http://homecinema.thedigitalfix.co.uk/content/id/70415/akira.html

...I would say it looks IDENTICAL. The transfer is slightly window-boxed, audio/sub options exactly the same, the English subs are almost identical to the English dub (from a few scenes I quickly sampled), and the extras are also exactly the same.

Picked up the US release of Evangelion 2.0 as it was out earlier in the states, is region free and has better packaging (imo).

On the fence with Akira release, already have the US release. Only wanted the tin for some OCD issues but may not bother.

This has now been confirmed to have the uncompressed soundtrack for the Bluray, I believe? Can't wait now.
