I took it to be another example of the numbers turning up rather than explaining them. It explains why they're printed on the side of the hatch, the code for the computer and why they were being broadcast, but it in no way explains why they keep cropping up elsewhere.

No, but it's obviously not been forgotten about. Goodwin can apparently run for an hour straight and Juliet can knock Jack out in one punch. I'm sure it'll be explained in plenty of time.

The initial opening was great, but the rest of the ep was a bit dull if truth be told. Not sure where the reviewers saying it was the "best ep ever since the pilot" came from?! I thought that the S2 finale was probably the closest it's come to the genius-ness of the pilot...here's hoping there are more of those this season!

Jack will be sucking new girl, Julia's face off within the next 5 episodes .... opening the way for Sawyer to get some Freckle-action ..... all speculation of course (before the Lost-Geeks inflict Sayid torture on me for dropping spoilers).

Wasn't Ana Lucia meant to be lined up as Jack's new "love interest" last year...
...then she went and angry-shagged Sawyer for a gun, leading to her own murder!

Here's hoping Juliet gets eaten by a Dharma shark!

Really enjoyed that. Just realised - when Juliet said that 'the air-con hasn't worked for ages' - it probably wasn't air-con, was it? More like a device to empty water from the pen.

It wasn't air-con, it was an intercom wasn't it? The button had 'communicate' written on it (I think), which is odd seeing as animals were suposedly kept in there... maybe Dharma were experimenting on Sharky & George?

As I've said on another thread, I think the film 'Pi' may cover similar ground to where I reckon they're going with this. The numbers are part of the very fabric of existence themselves. Another film I can think of that contains this sort of idea is the Japanese mind-blower 'Uzumaki'.

Anyway, a good solid start I thought. Like S2 was all about what the hatch was all about, I think S3 is going to be all about who and what the Others are.

The flashbacks made Jack look a right cock didn't they? Still, he wouldn't be the first person to go a bit 'strange' after their marriage broke up...

Yep that seemed to be the plan, then she got bladdered and drove around Hawaii.

You would think if they managed to get all the stuff there on the island to build the nice suburban houses and the books for the book club etc, they could have had a couple of quad bikes shipped in too, instead of having to run/hike across the island all the time

So what was the bang before the plane was spotted in the air was it coming down too fast or because the code was not entered and the hatch was going mentle?

I watched S1 and the first two eps of S2 before getiing bored. I've read the odd spoiler about S2 in the press and watched the last half of the S2 finale when it was on TV recently.

Having nothing better to do I watched 3x01 and was able to follow the 'plot' as well it seems as anybody else. Does this not show that the glacial pace of Lost is beyond a joke if a viewer can skip a whole season and still keep up?

Well I dare say that if I watched neighbours, having not watched it for about 7 years, I'd still be able to "catch up" with the plot, particularly if there was a "Previously, on Neighbours" for the last 7 years at the beginning(!)

I honestly think that people would prefer to watch the pilot, then read a website with the entire plot on it, all questions answered.

I would think the writers are doing something right if new people can just sit down and not feel lost aswell as providing a enough substance for long time fans

Magnetic build up on the island due to Desmond not pressing the button.

The first episode of any season should make an effort to reach out to new viewers. Just because you understood one episode doesn't mean you will understand the entire series. I'd also say you missed more than you realise, not least the relevance of who Ben is and his relationship to the main cast members.

Seriously, if you're not enjoying it you should find something better to do than to watch a show you dislike.
