HDMI does not always equal better. Component looks better on my set-up, so it's not a general rule.

Very true, it all depends how the TV handles the signal. I guess its like the whole RGB vs S-Video thing. My old Sony CRT TV, RGB looked so much better than S-Video, but my friends Panasonic it was the other way around!

watched it today and it does look poor

I'm not even sure why I bought it because the films complete rubbish too, even worse after recently watching the original two movies.

The two masters would have defintely been encoded with different codecs as Sony refuse to use anything other than their own propriatary codec even though the industry knows that theirs is inferior. This is why its much harder to get a decent picture from a blu-ray disc. Not impossible... just harder.

Watched the UK Version of this last night, Thought the movie was stonking!! My gf was in tears at the end. The picture was great, not on par with the excellent MI 3 (US) but nevertheless a great movie.

Anyone know how the Blu-Ray version of Superman returns compares to the HD-DVD? (I can pick up the blu0ray version cheaper)

Also wanted superman donner cut. Are they the same on both formats? (again is cheaper on blu-ray)

EDIT: Should really have read the rest of the thread properly.

Its the same 1080p VC1 encodes on Blu Ray and HD DVD for all the superman movies despite what some misinformed posts above might have you belive.

True HD track itself worth a lot, IMO you should go for HD version of superman returns.

Superman 2 donner cut has its own limitation, as movie itself shot long ago. If you take this into account, HD version is excellent. But not flawless as best HD DVDs in the category. Not worth as a reference HD DVD in your collection.

Thanks for the reply. Thing is, I dont have th equipment to make the most of a True-HD track anyway (standard AV amp and 360 HD Add-on).

If the only advantage is the audio track then i think i'll go with the blu-ray versions of both.....
