24 Day 6 - Sky One January

Whilst watching Lost S3 on Sky tonight saw a trailer for the forthcoming series of 24 which apparantly begins in January on Sky One. Looks awesome and will have to catch up with Series 5 which I've just started watching

The trailer just doesn't sound right when you have a English guy doing the speaking...

Looks like Sky One is catching up with American broadcast times. Isn't 24 also starting in the US during January?

Same with Lost - the US is on a 13 week break, by the time Sky One catches up, they should almost be inline with each other. Is this going to be an on going thing - UK no longer having to wait months until we get the US series?

And about time. Well done Sky One. Now all we need is for Channel 5 to get their act together with Prison Break.

Probably not. It works for 24 because there are no breaks in the US -- it runs January to May with no weeks off. Lost season 3 is in two parts, with the 18-episode second part also running uninterrupted (notice that Sky didn't showing the first part immediately, but waited so that it could end at Christmas and the gap be a bit more acceptable).

The best we can hope for with usual September-May shows is that a UK channel starts airing in January, catching up so that the latter episodes are shown at roughly the same time. (E4/C4 do this with ER, usually.) But I don't see it happening for all shows because they'd be distributed oddly across the year. The US copes with nearly everything running at the same time over 9 months (with gaps); if we showed everything as soon as possible (without gaps) we'd have everything in January-May and there'd be no new imports to show for 7 months.

Jan 16th for the first R1 dvd release from season 6! The first 4 episodes and preview of the 5th on a single disc. Curious.

Dammit!
That means the first four will leak so we'll end up watching them in one go and have nothing for another month!

as long as none if them end in the summer holidays as you always seem to be away for last episodes and do you trust your video / broadcast time change.

Yeah, but they're being aired in the US as follows:

Jan 14th - Eps 1 & 2
Jan 15th - Eps 3 & 4

So they'll be around anyway, regardless of the DVD
