Would this be suitable for my 6 year old son? He's seen Avengers and Black Panther

Yes it's pretty tame compared to those.

Watched yesterday. Thought it was okay, missed totally the 2 credit scenes which is annoying.
Still no idea how mysterio did what he did.
And yet again, not a single instance of any female talking to another female in the entire movie. Shame it couldn’t even pass such a low bar test.

Did you miss the 5 minute exposition scene where Beck explained in detail how he managed it or the scene where he was
or one of the many scenes where it showed
or were you too busy taking notes for your Bechdel Test?

I saw it on Friday. I thought it was a decent idea done averagely. It could have been any superhero movie. It didn't feel like a specific Spiderman film.

It's not perfect, "far from" it but it's still way better than any of the Tobey Maguire/Andrew Garfield efforts.

It's nowhere near as good as Spiderman 2.

For low bar read stupid or irrelevant.

Watching Killing Eve the weekend and thought this is how its done, not crowbar females into male roles but to create new female led content.

I am still ******** at Marvel for making Aunt May a hottie. Another issue is lack of roles for older people, actors complain of this, and here they are getting rid of one and making them yet another attractive female, as if all females have to be attractive. Makes me wonder if there was a meeting in setting up the series saying lets make Aunt May into some eye candy for the dads, hit that demographic.

Flash Thompson isn't too bad as he's going a good job, and understand when these stories were written society may have been predominantly white so need to update it with the time. Mary Jane should be a redhead though, another minority that's getting short shrift (look at Jimmy Olsen). However again the actress is doing a good job.

Storywise I really liked it, the first one to feel topical.

Why wouldn't Aunt May be a hottie? Because the comics and/or previous films say she isn't ?

It could be argued that an 18yr old (max) having a much older / pensioner Aunt is not realistic

Hardly. It's just a further example that Hollywood consider women's POV far less important than men's. In a film like this with a young audience watching it would have been very appropriate to include at least something to show that women are actually people too.

EDIT: Just to clarify and make sure I'm not getting the wrong end of the stick, are you saying that the Bechdel test is stupid and irrelevant, or that women on screen are? Because these are two very different conversations!

I am suggesting the Bechdel test is.

Or we are expecting young people ( or even most people ) to come out of every film questioning how women were portrayed in it ?

I would also suggest it doesn't even apply here as MJ gets an awful lot of screen time compared to other similar films. Or does it not count because she isn't shown in discussion with other women? Surely the test should be women in discussion with men otherwise you would portraying a stereotype that woman only talk to other women ?

Okay, we are in agreement then that Bechdel itself isn't a great system, even if its intent comes from a good place. Because I do also think that MJ gets a good role here and shows some skills.

Then we also have a character like Maria Hill who stands around, shows no emotion and does whatever Fury tells her.

Really enjoyed this. Best bit was taking my 7 year old daughter along (first time for an 'older' movie, compared to Pixar or Disney). The only bit she didn't like from a 'scary' perspective was the illusion montage including the
but she never mentioned it again over the weekend so it obviously didn't stay with her.

I really enjoyed Zendaya's performance in this one and generally felt the romance between MJ and Peter was quite sweet... but I was also struck by the thought that we've had two MCU Spider-Man films now and I know less about Mary Jane as a character by the end of Far From Home than I did at around 30mins into Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. Basically I know she's a little morbid and a little quirky, and she fancies Peter. That's it! I just hope with the third film they stop trying to prop the franchise up with the shadow of Tony Stark and finally develop the actual characters taking part in this franchise as a Spider-Man film should.

Personally I didn't like the distant, stand-offish, awkward performance she put in.
