The general what you've been playing discussion thread

There’s a couple of useful player aids on bgg:

Yep, GWT is great! And I agree that it's not hard to play once you get into it. The manual is also very clear, I found.

I've not played a board game for years and then it was only ever mainstream titles. Recently I've been toying with the idea of picking up a couple of games and while stuff like Gloomhaven and Great Western Trail etc look stunning I know they would be a bit heavy for me plus I know no one would entertain joining me in even giving them a go.

After lots of reading and watching Youtube vids I've finally ordered two games, Pandemic & Patchwork. The latter was the only title Mrs Bish showed a little interest in (Mmmm that looks OK actually) and I liked what I saw of Pandemic plus at a push I could be a sad billy no mates and have a few solo games. the other game I nearly ordered was Onitama but I'll see how I go with these first.

Worse case I can always sell them on as they seem to hold their value, in fact some are not easy to get hold of. Does anyone know anywhere that has Azul in stock?

I'm pretty sure she will like Patchwork as we watched a couple of gameplay tutorials already.

I've seen two versions of the time board one round one square I take it one is an older version?

It's double sided. Both play the same - just choose the one you prefer.

Ahh I see, I wondered why it looked different from various pictures and videos. I just assumed one was a first gen version.

Once you've got the wife into it a great 2p game that I've recently discovered and is sadly little known is Mettalum. Nice theme and great strategy game

It looks OK but I think the Sci Fi theme will be a negative for her.

Our copy arrive today and we've already enjoyed playing a few rounds. I notice that game designer Uwe Rosenberg also made Cottage Garden which looks a little similar.

Santorini arrived on Friday and it’s been played a dozen or so times over the weekend. Highly recommended, if you can find a copy at a reasonable price (I got it from amazon.com)

Yeah, we like this too. Pricey for the game it is, but the beauty helps it come out more.

My wife is enjoying Hanabi at the mo

Thanks to a second print run we finally managed to get hold of a copy of Azul and so far it has lived up to expectations.

Quite like the look of that one.

We’ve been playing Karuba (a lot), Augustus (an awful lot), TTR Europe, Adventure Land, Magic Maze and Deep Sea Adventure the last few days....all great.

Just ordered Century:Golem edition, which looks fun.

We have seen a lot of repeat plays of Great Western Trail. Strategies developing all the time and it's starting to really bed in as a game that rewards learning well.

Going to hopefully pick up Scythe soon.

Got Charterstone bought Mrs Torf's birthday soon - looking forward to that one as a two player.

Had a small Party at the weekend with non gamer's and played Wits & wagers, Monikers, Sheriff of Nottingham and Ex Libris.

Surprisingly all apart from Sheriff of Nottingham went down really well. Not sure about Sheriff, possibly because we had quite a bit to drink at that point. Although one of the party totally played us by bluffing the amount of alcohol consumed. She seemingly forgot the rules every turn but ending up deceiving the Sheriff each time.

Also got a couple of Tim Fowers games, Paperback and Fugitive. Not tried Paperback yet but Hoping the misses will like it.

Enjoyed Fugitive, nice little Filler game.
