Kvyat's crash angles: https://www.formula1.com/en/video/20...lverstone.html

At 0:45 you can see the tyre deflate from the rear-facing camera.

That was actually a concrete barrier he hit which I did not realise at the time.

The F1 2020 Thread

Why do they show adverts for Qualifying during the practice coverage? Do they think we’d only watch practice?

I enjoyed that race a lot. Several interesting strategies in use during the race and tyres seemingly affected by the heat, downforce and cornering speeds. It was a great race by Max and I particularly liked his confidence in how his tyres were performing and not just backing off. I was amazed Lewis's rear tyres held up in the end, I couldn't help thinking of China 2007 at some points. Perhaps it would be nice if a few more races this year had some more variability with the tyres with teams forced to estimate the trade-off of downforce and cornering speed off against tyre life.

I also enjoyed it as Martin keeps saying thank god for Verstappen. Probably be very few races this year where Mercedes will be challenged . Unless we have a heatwave all year

It was a good race all the way through for a change.

Is it a good argument for Pirelli to make sure that 2-stops is a minimum nowadays? Softer compounds give you more performance variety and more pitstops, which gives more chance of overtakes and unexpected things happening.

I often find nailed on one stop races quite boring.

How about “use must use ALL tyre types”?

Personally I don't find it entertaining to hear a driver at the peak of their sport being told to ease off to save the tyres!

I think it's always gone on to an extent but now we have such high downforce and heavier cars it's more of an issue, along with the tyre manufacturer being contracted to make tyres that degrade in a certain way.

I don't necessarily like drivers having to hold back as much as they sometimes seem to have to do, but I did find it interesting how the different car configurations affected things. Mercedes had lots of downforce and higher cornering speeds, but chewed the tyres. Also how Red Bull seemed to think the data said that Max needed to hold back, but he was convinced he could push harder and did so and won the race.

It is a difficult balancing act, ultimately what I'd prefer is variety throughout the year - particularly so that one car cannot just optimise for one set of characteristics (e.g. heat management) and dominate.

The performance of the racing point cars unfortunately is showing that if all the drivers were given the same car and same setup you'd probably have most of the field literally only a few tenths apart from each other.

Well yeah. They're all good racing drivers, and the margins from the best to worst on the grid aren't huge or anything. That said some cars fit drivers styles better than others and some will naturally struggle. Just look at the difference between LeClerc and Vettel. Or Russell and Latifi, Ricciardo and Ocon.

I don't want A1GP but I do think all teams should have the same resources to spend. The spending caps are helping, but there's still too big a disparity.

Am still waiting for inverted sections and loop de loops... that would spruce it up.

I don't think Vettel's heart is in it now, I'd expect him to retire either at the end of this season or next. He's won 4 championships with probably no chance of another.

LeClerc on the other hand is still young with everything to drive for so I would expect his performance on track to be better than his teammate.

The sport is about driver/car/track combined. You have to have best package on race day to win . Sometimes that means looking after the car is most important . It's what makes F1 so fascinating imo.

Ferrari and Renault officially appeal the punishment for Racing Point.

Not sure how that one is gonna turn out.
