It was never going to be in the same tone as TNG as Kurztman trek is "bleh action" (perfect with bad reboot productions) in tone. One of the other producers said it will be "slower more gentle" Not betting on that tbh

Whats the point of bringing a character to appeal to fans yet he is nothing like the character the fans love. Then if the show fails they'll blame the fans.
This has been obvious since the start. It doesn't have all the original characters, or the enterprise. The clue is in the name, it's a story about Picard. I am dumbfounded that someone thought it was worth writing a blog entry about this close to the show airing.

So when he meets all the old STNG people he won’t actually know them? He just happens to have friends that look the same? 😂

Producers shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near an interview, just put the money up, choose the team and then shut the **** up.

I have a feeling that this is why the show runner has already quit

The interview was about the tone of the new show, what je was saying was don't expect it to be TNG in tone, its going to be more like STD or the reboot movies

The show was never going to be TNG, TV had moved in from the monster of the week type show. We have 5 classic Trek shows to watch whenever we want. The format has to change, DIS wasn't great but that was more down to the sloppy writing.

I will keep my moaning at bay until I have seen at least the first episode. From the previews the show looks like it has the potential to be good.

STD didn't feel like star trek, a good writers can keep the spirit of what the original is but make it modern. Thats the difference

I don't think so he knows all these people Riker et Al but they will have had different adventures on a ship that was slightly different in uniforms that are slightly different so BR can try and make loads of money on merchandise that won't sell just like with star was and std and Kelvin Star Trek

This 20% thing for licensing has been debunked many, many times.

Star Trek Discovery: Children of Mars is up if you know where to look and it clearly has nothing to do with Discovery and EVERYTHING to do with Picard.

Only in a blink and you will miss it. As a short I guess it's fine but as a Star Trek related item linked to Picard is very tenuous and I feel a bit cheated having waited 6 months being told it's a prelude to Picard.

Looked very nice, but probably in the end one of the least memorable Shorts.

However one thing they did confirm is that they still have news in 24th century. In all of the Trek shows they never really shown TV or news in any capacity. Riker even says that TV fell out of favour around the 2040s.

sure they had the press in some of the old ST movies, 6 and generations

PS did a recent interview pretty much restating don't expect the TONE of TNG, expect the tone of discovery aka Abrams/kurtzman "trek" it seems

I'm happy with the tone of STD as long as it has characters who I'm sympathetic to. With JLP at the helm then they already have a character I'm invested in so they are already one step ahead on my count. I guess it depends who else they write into the show and how interesting their characters are.

But this is NOT JLP from the TNG series and movies PS confirmed as much; the investment you have in him is therefore meaningless as he is a new character PS said he didn't want to do the same again. It's pure nostalgia baiting to get people to watch then if it fails they'll bash the very same fans. It will be exactly like what they did with Luke Skywalker. That's why you are getting articles saying it's not TNG continued but discovery era TNG to lessen the blow.

Of course he is not the same, it's been 20 years. I am not the same person I was at 22 as I am 42. This doesn't mean it's a different Picard it means he has 20 years additional like experience.

Patrick Stewart is spot on the has already been 7 seasons of TNG that don't need to rehash it. If they can't bring something new to the table then it's pointless.
