Grrr ... if they had made the announcement just 72 hours ago, we'd still be in the Champions League and with Alisson in goal

Anyone who thinks there is ANY similarity between this season and when Blackburn won clearly has no idea about football. Or maybe it is just me who remembers Blackburn spending a shed load of unearned money to win the league on the final day. Liverpool on the other hand have won the Super Cup, World Club Cup and the league pretty much with 4 months to spare with very little nett spend.
It was a joke

Be a shame if the cancelled the season at this point really.

Feel sorry for Liverpool - so near and now yet so far after all these years.

IF the season is completely cancelled - as opposed to postponed - could they not be awarded the Premiership title anyway? After all, there was no realistic chance of any other club catching them had the season gone ahead.

I guess it only needs city to concede the title in theory and can't see how they could realistically not.

The bigger issue from a financial point of view is the bottom and the top and bottom of lower leagues. Why should the current prem clubs fighting relegation get given a free pass at season next year, and all those clubs fighting for promotion have to miss out and those fighting against relegation in lower leagues get out of jail free? A lot of clubs will struggle from the missed match day revenue and TV income of there was no more football this season, but they'd still be expected to pay their players. Could be financial ruin for some smaller clubs that are already struggling.

The only fair and sensible way imo is to complete this season at a later date regardless of when that can happen, and if it impacts on next season make next season shorter, cancelling the league cup and fa cups and international friendlies if necessary.

There is also the added complexity that, currently, both Villa and Sheff Utd have a game in hand (against each other) which - if won - would take them out of the relegation zone or into the CL places respectively

Cancel the League Cup for next season and expand all the divisions, let all the team who are due to be promoted to go up and play more league games next season to make up for it with more relegation places to get the numbers back to normal.

City can concede the title and you can have it.

What I find funny about all the bitter rival fans talk of tainted titles is ... none of them seem able to point out which 7/8 games LFC would definitely lose in order to give City their only chance of winning ( on top of City not dropping a single point )

It's irrelevant, though, isn't it? You haven't won it mathematically, so of course there will be questions asked. That's not 'bitter'. That's exactly what you'd be saying if it was City in the lead and you in second.

If the roles were reversed? No.

We are talking about a 25 point gap not a 4/5 one.

So do we think the season will actually end? I was reading an article that even if they do start on April 3rd players who have been ill and/or self isolated will need to get match fit again...in the mean time other players are likely to fall ill and before we know if we are in June when lots of player contracts end.
The legal and financial implications of this are massive for football aren’t they?

I think there's bob hope of restarting again any time before the summer.

Yeah same here...can’t see how they will get enough players fit before the summer. The other thing is some clubs will get players back who otherwise wouldn’t have been fit before the normal season end (Kane & Son as an example) so the final table could look very different to how it might have been!

Who are all these players who are suddenly unfit ? IIRC there were just 4 players who were self-isolating before the weekend and no more players have been reported as doing it since.

What is going to be likely IMHO is either a long delay before the 19/20 season restarts or the remaining games are played - after a rarely short suspension - behind closed doors. I reckon it all become a lot clearer once UEFA have revealed what is happening to Euro 2020 on Tuesday

Apparently the Italian FA - who have a fair amount of clout with UEFA - are going to demand, on Tuesday, that the Euros be postponed so that their league can be completed.

Delaying the Euros until next summer makes the most sense so we can get the season finished. But UEFA don't want that as it screws up their Nations League next summer.

I understood that most of the Chelsea and Arsenal 1st teams were self isolating after Arteta and Hudson Odoi had positive diagnosis. That was reported on BBC last week.

Self isolating doesn't mean you suddenly become unfit ? And that is 2 teams ( 4 if you include Everton and West Ham ) out of 20.

And some from Leicester too. So we 5 out of 20 a quarter of the league so far! I do appreciate that they won’t be unfit after 2 weeks off but they will lose some match fitness and clubs will be unwilling to rush them straight back into playing....apart from that reports are that 3-4 weeks we could be like Italy and Spain so many more could be ill by then.

And Bournemouth has a player in isolation too.

The biggest worry you've got is that all this is going to looking incredibly trivial over the next few weeks and months and nobody will be wanting to 'blink' first.

The government have buried their heads in the sand and left it all to the individual organisations but which one of those is going to want to look like they don't care about the fans or the players? Which one of those will be the first to pretend life is back to normal? This needs to come from the government.

It's pretty obvious that we are only at the beginning of the CV-19 problems, things will get a lot worse before getting better. The chances of games resuming on April 3rd are wildly optimistic, there's no real way at present to predict when the 'all clear' will be given. As for ending the season now and declaring Liverpool champions, well, that's a bit problematic...you still need to win 2 games from the remaining 9 and, although you have been astonishingly good so far, you have just lost 4 from the last 6 games played.... ...also, not to complete the full tally of games will leave you with an asterisk next to your cherished title!

This is an absolute mess for the FA bigwigs to sort out and I have a feeling no-one's going to be too happy, but...it's only a game

...anyone going to phone up Sky Sports and ask for their money back this month as there's zero live sport on??

Technically, depending on how the season restarts we only need to win the next one or draw the next one and win one

And it is more a case of LFC have to LOSE at least 7 of the last 9 to not win the league.
