At least I want to play Colossus. That's better than the last couple of months.

No excitement for this then? It was very developer-centric presentation and full of caveats as to why the PS5 will be great even though it's underpowered compared to Xbox.

A lot of question marks about storage and the still in development 3D audio.

As ever, it'll be about what games they can get in our hands at the end of the day.

Playstation fans don’t care about power anymore ever since the Xbox One X came out

General PlayStation/PSN(+)/Now/PSTV/VR Thread

This was clearly not a presentation for the masses and they really should have made that clear before but it was interesting nevertheless.

Having Mark continue his explanation which stretch back to the first PS4 teasers maintains the continuity in the details but it was clear early on that the FLOPS were going to be lower when he started underplaying them. I guess it will matter as to how the FLOPS are used plus once we get this high, how much of a deal will 1.655 extra mean.

It also could factor into how much less the PS5 might be.

I do like what they are doing with the SSD expansion, using “any”* old M.2 rather than a highly specialised one off will make for “cheaper” expansion, as will being able to use HDDs for PS4 games.

It sounds like you'll need a super high-end m.2 drive to get it to work with the PS5, so it remains to be seen if it'll be cheaper than Microsoft's proprietary partnership with Seagate.

Both scenarios are likely to be expensive.

No doubt both will be expensive but a “one off” one company made for one machine SSD is bound to be more than an (admittedly high end) off the shelf, PC part.

It’s gonna be the 360s 20GB HDDs all over again

I presumed Microsoft went proprietary with their new storage as the speed of the drive is going to be so critical to the speed of the console and it’s new features (the 5 game “instant” resume for example)

Whilst i applaud Sony going with a standard design it could result I suppose in someone buying a cheap drive in the future whose specs are not similar to what the console needs thus creating a bottleneck ?

Interesting how they’ve purposely overcooked elements of it, with the assumption related tech will catch up.

Send a photo of your ear in return for a custom HRTF. (I did acoustics at Uni and that section brought back a lot of memories!)

He has quite a unique presentation style.

I really don't care about specs, its all about the quality of the games for me.

As long as the games not under perform and look bad at standard resolution or lower. Xbox one had the problem of 900p or lower for some games and they looked awful and a bit blurry at times

got 4 months of ps now (got 1 month free code with 3 months) the selection is quite decent now that you can download ps4 games (ps2 selection is quite small from what I had quick look at) Shame ps3 games can't be downloaded as quite a few games I want to play

Unfortunately the PS3 architecture is so foreign that even the PS5 doesn’t look like it will emulate it (even though I know most higher current gen PCs could emulate most PS3 games) plus the PS Now system is a money maker for them, not that they’ll get my money.

Obviously the PS1/2 would work on it but there’s been no mention of it so far, bit silly seeing how open MS are being with it.
