I've followed football both at home and abroad for over 25 years, but that's the first time I've ever heard of the Castrol ratings, am I the only person who hasn't?

New to me too, it's a load of rubbish anyway. You can't really quantify the product from a player without taking into account the team that he plays for, the tactics they play and their opposition.

Perfect example is Messi - absolutely outstanding and amongst the greatest players we have seen. Put him in a poor Argentina team and he isn't anywhere near as effective. Similarly, a good player doesn't always transition well to a new and supposedly team, examples being Kaka at present and Veron when he transferred to the PL.

I haven't heard of the Castrol Rankings either. I went to the site to look at the rankings.
Apparently, Joe Hart is the world's best keeper but the list loses all credibility because Peter Crouch is in the top 1000 players in the world. To be fair, he did fire us into the Champions League.

However, the biggest laugh is the summary on Wikipedia. You see, it's all tied up with Castrol being a big FIFA sponsor, and I'm not making this up, but:-

Castrol became the official oil lubricant of FIFA in 2008.

That's right, because the governing body of world football needs an official oil lubricant.
I'm with Mr.Rummeniggre, let's break away from FIFA.

What an amazing signing today by Manchester City

No matter what way you cut it Manchester City have signed someone today that no Premiership club wouldn't pleased as punch with.

Even DY would be happy if he signed for Spurs

Will be interesting to see how he gets on.

He doesn't have the work rate of tevez, but he is more tricky.

Let's see him on a wet night down Norwich.

Wouldn't class it as an amazing signing to be honest. You triggered his release clause which means athletico were happy then chucked loads of money at him.

Let's hope it don't go south with his missus like tevez. It's a big culture change for his family.

Not sure...

I haven't seen enough of him. My Spanish football last season mostly consisted of watching the Messi show.

He's never caught my eye in any game I've seen him in although I'm aware of him. But the same could be said for Suarez who surprised me when he rocked up at ours.

But with you lot chucking money around it's always difficult to judge the players motives. You throw so much money around, that if the worlds big boys aren't interested then you're an attractive proposition.

So RB. When Zabaleta is back from the CA, who is going to be first choice Richards or Zabaleta?

Zabaleta played more games last season than Richards and has recently signed a new 3 year extension hasn't he?

Let me kick off by The Bear by wishing Wolves the best for next season. I think Mick is a shrewd operator.

In regards to your question about Right Back I think that Richards will get the nod on form he's top draw. Zabelta is a utility player who covers left back, right back, midfield (and probally centre half). City fans love Zableta because he's the old fashioned no nonsense defender who not afraid to take a kicking.

But the nod I feel will go to Richards because he seems to have dropped all the off field distractions and learnt to focus on what made him a wealthy young man in the first place. I get the feeling that if he remains injury free he will be a monster this coming season.

I reckon that Richards will start as first choice too. But Zab will get a lot of games because of his versatility and even the ones he doesn't start in, he'll be on the field plenty of times.

I think that Richards is going to be a vital part of the team this season because of his ability to motor up and down the wing. A lot of people questioned Mancini last year with his packed midfield (NDJ, Yaya and Barry) and often questioned why Adam Johnson didn't start every game. But I think that he's going for width from the full backs and keeping it solid down the middle.

Not content with just signing Aguero, it seems that there is a remote possibility that we could go after Juan Mata.
If it came to a choice between us and Arsenal, I wonder whether his ex-team mate David Silva could swing it for us?

As a Chelsea fan I'm gutted you signed him. We have been linked with him for years, can't believe we didn't go for him.....in fact gutted that we don't seem to be really linked with anyone at the minute

Im not sure where it popped up from, I saw it for the first a few years back, and then it was only due to a puff piece in the Metro or something.

Seems to be based purely on stats of the individual player. No idea how those stats are compiled or manipulated to get the single figure for the graph though.

Also for me, Richards 1st choice RB, Zab is a key utility man and can pretty much play anywhere he is needed.

What is going to happen to Kolorov now? Any time I seen him he looked far from a player that was worth the money you paid but then again didn't Mancini play him further up the field?

Interesting. Thanks for the good luck message Citysmith. I'd offer the same but I doubt you'll need it somehow. Top 3 guaranteed IMO.

I still think Zabaleta will get the RB slot regularly once he is fit from the CA, especially in European games. He's broken into the Argentina squads now so I think Mancini will see him as the more experienced option eventually.

Not if we had to sell our souls and debase the game by doing so.

This made me laugh. There was a recent tweet relating to Villa-Boas comments about City's spending being unfair. The correspondent said that AVB then went on to describe the colour of kettles and play a small violin.
