It's now confirmed that the blu-ray is the theatrical version.
I've never seen it (for shame!) but which cut is considered the better version? Why they couldn't just put both cuts on the blu-ray is beyond me frankly.

I'd rather have both, but since the theatrical is the version I've grown to love, I'd rather have that than the DC. The DC adds some ambiguity but also drops a lot of material from the TC, hence if you love the film you'd want to have both, really.

Details about some of the changes here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2RY6SCT8GJ19J

Theatrical cut for me. Strange not to have both though.

The fact that it's Region Free is a big bonus for me as I only have a region B player ....so now to have one of my favourite films on blu-ray is sweet

Very interesting, thanks for that link. I can't believe I've never seen this film, I'm looking forward to it.

It's great. Watch it and Hoosiers at the same time. Tonnes of retro feelgood sporting action.

The Natural's got a really lovely, mythical feel to it as well, where it purposely associates nostalgia for a simpler time, defined by sporting "heroes" as almost magical, literally.

When you said you'd never seen it I assumed you mean the theatrical version, not the film itself. You're in for a treat. There's almost a Shawshankesque feel to it.

Thanks for all the links guys as they were of great help to me....Ritchie your in for a real treat as I would put this down as the best baseball film I have ever seen and maybe up there with the best sporting films BTW just noticed it on PLAYUSA for Ł12.99 pre-order price

Yeah, that's the cheapest I've found too. Definitely worth it, been waiting a while for this on blu. It's my absolute favourite sports film - you don't really have to like or understand baseball either: the "sport" is a substitute for "legend", it's like they're knights rather than baseball players.

Agree totally it's more about the emotions and struggle of Roy Hobbs...I think it could be classed as a great Drama as the acting in it is Top Class with Redford / Bassinger/Duvall....Time to get rid of the 2 disc Director's Cut on dvd from what I have read

Anyone else got this? I think the transfer is really nice, the tones are warm and in keeping with the film.

received it today and agree the film has a very nice warm look to it with a hint of very fine grain that seems to enhance the period ....really pleased ....The DTS HD master audio sound is very good as well as it almost puts you in the baseball stadium with the crowds cheering coming very nicely around the room...Top Class film with the treatment it deserves...

Mine's stuck in a backlog somewhere, covered with volcanic ash.

The documentary with it was quite interesting too. Never realised Barry Levinson did all the announcer stuff.
