Well you can get Movies for about £4 extra per month if you already have Sky Sports (£25.50 p/m).

So I'd say not that good. About £5 per month saving.

Sky have overpaid for the sport (they got massively trolled by BT) and all viewers are paying for it.

Is this an excuse to get out of a contract?

This'll put me up to £56 a month for Sky Multiscreen & Variety HD. They know I'm hooked and I have no choice...

This AND I may lose my job tomorrow...

What about NowTV? £7 a month and most of the channels I watch seem to be on it, Sky1 and Atlantic. I currently pay £26 for the family package but don't really see what I'd miss if I got rid of it and went for that instead.

I've already got both tvs hooked up to a nowtv box as we got the films recently.

It'd also get me to watch the Netflix and Amazon stuff I don't bother with as I instead watch old episodes of Malcolm in the Middle or something.

I'd get a Freesat box for recording off normal telly

Our streaming still isn't up to it, 5-8pm is not a good time to watch films. That and I want to keep F1, if they kill my legacy sub, that might be the time to walk.

Thanks for the heads up about this. Sky HD box has finally packed up and not sure I can justify SkyQ, so might go for a free view box and NowTV as it has the key channels from Sky I would like to get. Trying to see what the catch is to be honest!

Doesn't seem to be any apart from the obvious, you can't record and hence you're relying on catch-up services for all your viewing, hence you've got 4 weeks to keep on top of stuff.

After they told me my sub was going up, I phoned Sky and told them I want to cancel. The guy asked why and I told him flat out that there's no benefit to be a loyal customer that's been with them for 20 years, plus they are just pricing themselves out of the market now.

I'd heard it was super hard to cancel, but the guy said "How about if I knock £5 per month off will you stay?" To which I replied "You're having a laugh, you're offering me £1.50 per month saving after this increase. I can buy a decent freesat box, pay for the additional channels that I do watch via NowTV, etc and be better off within a few months." He just said "Ok, your end date is this."

Bye Bye Sky

Once it's cut-off I'll see which channels the family actual miss before paying for NowTV/Etc, but I can't see it being many. It feels liberating

That's kind of where we are at with it. We do most of our viewing on catchup service on various devices and there's the terrestrial free view channels which still get used, but Sky Atlantic is one channel we would definitely miss which is why NowTV seems like a good solution. Add in things like Netflix and iTunes and I'm just not going to pay £50 a month (basic) for Sky's hundreds of channels and crappy set top box. I think Sky Q would be a good upgrade, but as a subscriber of 15 years, I'm not paying £300 to have it installed - it's that thing you said about there being zero reward for loyalty to them.

Have cut the cord! A week shy of 14 years apparently and they don't really try that hard to keep you. The guy agreed SkyQ was too expensive and nothing they said/offered was worth me changing their mind. I really get the feeling that Sky are stubbornly refusing to accept that the way a lot of us watch TV has changed a lot over the last few years in particular and haven't adapted to give flexible offerings.

Feels very liberating

I think they will either come back later with a better offer or to be honest after all that time, they probably think you might be bluffing.

Someone like me, who has only been with them a short time, it's fairly obvious I might go elsewhere so a better deal is likely. But as I say, they'll probably come back later.

The only things that are really keeping me are the Cricket and not having to explain to my wife how to work Netflix, Amazon Prime etc

I shall be cancelling my Sky TV at the end of June.

I can live without it for a few weeks until they come up with a better offer than I'm paying now.

Well my times almost up and zero call from them. Although that might be the last time they randomly called me up to offer me an "upgrade" for movies I told them to **** off and never call me again as I hate cold-callers.

Even if they offer it free I'm still gone because I've had enough of being treated like a second class customer. My Freesat box is waiting to be switch on as soon as they cut the signal.

My House Mate must be the only 1 in the country to have paid and still paying £7.50 p/m for Sky BB. She's out of contract but getting her to sit down and ring them threatening to leave is something I'm still trying to achieve.. I'm not paying it myself but still I reckon she could get it from £65 for Family & BB down to under £40..

I sat down with my parents the other weekend and did them an audit, refused to let them pay £400 to Saga for house insurance, they got it for £150, changed their energy supplier. The next stage is to sort of the money they pay to BT.

It's only half the issue with the cost, it's also the ancient equipment they've got
