Good film, both R1 and R2 versions are apparently pretty poor. But the R1 is supposed to be a dramatic improvement over the older R2.

There is a pretty good R1 available with commentary, interviews etc. Avoid the R2 and go for the R1 instead.

Quadrophenia is a classic. Heck, it even makes Sting look cool.

One day some one will do it justice on DVD.

One day....

I got this version which has the following extras:

• Region 1 encoding (US and Canada only)
• Color, Widescreen, Dolby
• Commentary by director Franc Roddam
• Theatrical trailer(s)
• Interview with Sting
• Photo gallery including publicity photos, memorabilia, and continuity Polaroids from Franc Roddam's scripts
• Who discography
• Film trivia subtitle track
• Animated location map with footage from the scenes today
• Quiz: Are you a "Mod" or a "Rocker?"
• Film restoration feature
• Vespa trailer featuring classic commercials
• British mod film compendium
• Easter eggs include "Portrait of a Mod," reviews of the film, Riot button, and more
• Remastered from the original 35mm negative and Dolby A soundtrack
• Widescreen letterbox format

But some scenes are missing from my UK VHS version

I love this film and have often though about replacing my vhs version but I'd heard the region 2 copy was not very good. Now I'm told the region 1 version is cut (or did you mean the vhs version is cut) I'm not so sure.

So whats missing jroadley ?

OK, not seen the VHS for ages. Will take a look tonight if I can and post back. These aren't nail crunching scenes.

Someone else must know as well!

Quad Cuts

The scenes that have been cut from the R2 are, a scene where Phil Daniels gets his paypacket pops out to the tailers to pay a deposit on his suit,a scene just before everybody goes the house party was cut in the toilets where the lads are talking and a guy is sitting in the toilets high on drugs and a couple of other talkie scenes, nothing substansial the R 1 is a bit dotty here and ther but it adds a bit more realism aging to the movie, the R 2 is crap but longer but a waste of money,R1 is much better value for money.

Thanks jroadley, looks like the region 1 version is the one to go for which I find a bit strange considering it's a British film.

The Quadrophenia album is reportedly getting a full makeover at the moment, with Townshend supervising a 5.1 mix for a 2xCD (hybrid SACD) release release along the lines of Tommy, Who's Next, Live at Leeds etc.
Earlier this year on the Who site it reported that this new mix could form the basis of future DVD releases, so............
A new SE of Quadrophenia on the cards for next year or beyond?

Steve

LOL !!!

I seem to recall seeing "Quadrophenia" in a double bill with "Scum" at the ABC in Sheffield, but that must have been a re-release.
Anyway, it's a very good film with a dynamite cast.

Well I'll disagree and say I thought it was rubbish. Obviously I'm in a minority though!
