Outlook Express - Sent mail query

Mail in my sent items folder (outlook express 2003)

Has three types of icon:
1) one once sent that looks like a closed envelope but fainter
2) one with open envelope (once read)
3) one wiht closed envelope (if you put it as unread it's much darker colouring and shows as unread on the general listing)

So if you've read one you've sent can you get it back to the faint closed envelope as in 1? if you put it as unread it turns into number 3.

please advise.

I've just tried this in Outlook Express (2003? if you click help about what do you get as your version number?) but can't replicate what you describe. So i had a bit of a dig about in the Help;

Help - Contents and Index - Tips and Tricks - Using Outlook Express Message List Icons

Which one of these is number 1 ? The only icons for regular mail seem to be unread = bold closed envelope and read = faint envelope

Is it Outlook 2003 - after i post this i'll check the help there

actually i'm not even sure of that now! my outlook express 6 doesn't seem to do it this morning yet it's done it at other times

really is three different types of envelope in sent items
one closed faint one with kind of corner missing
one closed dark one (when marked unread)
and one open one

So just to check - can you see all the icons that you can see in the help section that i pointed to? Have you got any Outlook Express addons installed - any particular extra toolbars or mail sorters, something like that?

Any chance of a screengrab.

Hmm i'm getting stumped here. Are you using an IMAP mail account - say AOL for example? Have you tried adding a new identity and adding your account back in and seeing if you can do it - i've read a number of sites that say that the mark as read/unread should apply to IMAP accounts too.

If your account isn't IMAP then it sounds like you shouldn't be able to see that icon, but for some reason you are so maybe a reinstall of Internet Explorer/Outlook Express is in order.

Unless of course anyone else has any suggestions
