Saviola is good, but still isnt the goalscorer we are after and I have a lot of doubts whether he could actually do it in the Premier League.

They might, you're right. I just doubt they will...

Also RW = Pennant. Would be a fantastic value buy. Potential England RW.

pennant would only be value because he's cheap.not good enough imo. not a bad squad player but hardly top class.

Agreed, we should be looking at top class rather than simply "good" players now. If he is £3.5m, I would buy him, he has potential, but I would still be looking at someone better.
Although, having said that, I still prefer Gerrard at RM rather than in the centre, but I think Rafa may have only seen that as a stop-gap given that he is after an orthodox right winger/midfielder.

Not much he can do about it really - as is it based on Chelsea's European performances [ or lack of ] before he arrived.

At the current rate ... in two years time, provided they don't muck up qualification in those two years, they could well be the no. 1 English seeds.

If he is then I that means, surely, that Alves isn't.

And to think Trezeguet on loan would have been

Would take either Malbranque or Pennant, but Duff is much better imo.
Oops...

Had Kewell on the brain when I was typing that...meant the 'Burn...

Wright-Phillips was great at Man City, where he was the full package. I think he's a confidence player though and being rooted to the bench can't have helped him.

He scored 10 premiership goals the season before he moved to Chelsea. Anyway I doubt he'll be up for sale for another couple of seasons.

By the way, I know some people are writing off Fowlers role in the upcoming season as bit part player, but did anyone realise he had the best scoring ratio in the prem for us last season?

Bearing in mind he was unfit and was subbed a lot he still managed to score 5 goals in 14 prem appearances.

Papers were reporting this morning that Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for him but in the region of £21m.

I think they would be lucky to get more than £10m for, they have completely devalued him by not playing him and him not getting into the WC squad.

He will probably be sold to Portsmouth on the last day of the transfer window.

In fact, thinking about it ....

Alves + Trezeguet would be a lot better than Kuyt

IMO

Oh no. From what I saw of Kuyt in the World Cup, he's even less of a goal machine than Cisse.

World Cup form is not a great indicator of ability, look at Rooney for example - in this world cup the strikers did especially poorly, noone really shone except Klose.
Havent seen much of Kuyt though so dont know how good he is, would definately prefer Toni though, Trezeguet would be good too.

Kuyt would be good for us, Trezequet would be as well. Pro's and Con's for both IMO. Since the likes of Eto, Toni and Klose wouldn't sign for us or we don't have the dollar, we have to be realistic in who we can get. I had hoped for Villa Sanchez but doesn't seemed to of materialized.

It seems that you need to have gone to the FA cup (or have qualified for a ticket) to go to the Community Shield. If anyone here has access to tickets and isn't going I'd appreciate the chance to buy them.

Old news recycled, Parry denies any new approach.
