It's my favourite Argento film (just above Suspiria, Deep Red and Opera) so this is an essential purchase.

Yeah, Emerson's score is wild and eccentric. Actually, I don't mind Emerson, Lake and Palmer, despite their risible pomposity, dodgy lyrics and general daftness.

It“s going to be interesting which Master they will be using for Inferno (Fox or Anchor Bay). I prefer the Italian Fox version.

FYI:
The Danish company "Another World Entertainment" will be releasing Inferno in August.

Will be upgrading my old Anchor Bay US disc to grab this. I watched the DVD the other night, whilst looking good in some places, the night time stuff looked pretty bad on my plasma.

Love the film, the ending is incredible and the piece of music during that end sequence is fantastic. Think I'll give it a spin to celebrate it passing uncut. Well done BBFC

So can anyone confirm if Tenebre is just getting a DVD or a Blu Ray release as well in July? The artwork's great (as opposed to the Inferno cover!), but I won't be buying this again until it's on Blu Ray. It's listed on several sites but then so is Deep Red and that's not coming out on Blu yet.

Finally. Hope they can make the release date at this short notice. Even the artwork on this one's not too bad for a change.

If only they'd spoken up about it being a special effect when this was first certified in 93, we wouldn't have had to put up with a cut version at all.

So, Blue Underground have spoken and their bd of Inferno does not look like arse. Much prefer the US colour scheme to the Arrow timing. Who knows about accuracy, but the deeper blues and reduction of those horrid warm browns (affecting skin tones in a non-too pretty way) makes the whole thing look starker and stronger IMO. Seems very close to the Anchor Bay dvd, in fact, which rumour has it is a faithful representation* of the original prints.

The close-up "eyes" cap (set 7, if Inferno fans are interested) shows a substantial improvement. Can't go wrong with Bill Lustig's Blue Underground.

Inferno DVD Beaver

*Obviously that's unsubstantiated. Camera Obscura will be releasing a DoP approved edition in the near future, but again, there's the question of whether Romano Albani's current look accurately represents the original palette.

Yeah, that looks more like it. Cool there's no DNR as such either. Make mine Blue Underground.

Those close ups of the eyes really show how DNR removes the detail from an image - remarkable.

What a difference. I'm going for the Blue Underground too.

Plus I found the Arrow image to smear a good bit in motion (typical degraining artefacts), which the BU shouldn't do.

Arrow to release Argentos including Inferno and Deep Red on DVD and Blu-ray in August

Watched the BU the other day and it's a far superior release. The picture quality is substantially better - the reds and blues look incredible. Glad I sold my Arrow release a couple of months back.

Roll on the BU release of Deep Red (another Arrow disc I've sold on due to lacklustre pic quality and subtitles that appear too early).

It looks like Arrow have also messed up phenomena (DNR) and Bird With Crystal Plumage (wrong aspect ratio). What a joke.

Depends what you mean by messed up. It has a little DNR but not so heavy that everyone looks like a waxwork, and personally I didn't really notice it. It is also by far the best looking version yet released

So, its better than the DVD. That doesnt justify the prices Arrow charge for their releases. I've suffered enough of their releases (Dawn of the Dead, City of the Living Dead etc) to know that this just isn't worth it. I was reasonably happy with their Inferno, but it looks like the Blue Underground release blows it away. I'm saving my pennies from now on and wait for someone to do a proper version.

Arrow's track record with video transfers seems to court controversy with almost every release. In the past, I have been reasonably favourable towards them, just happy, I suppose, that they are bringing such taboo delights out on the format. But the trend for DNR is getting a little old-hat, now, and their scrubbing-up process has got to be rectified. Phenomena has had the wax-effect smack it, for sure. Grain has been wiped from the 1.66:1 AVC-encoded image, and the resulting blandness and smears are bound to aggravate those who want the original texture left intact. The picture is not a mess, throughout, and they are times when it looks very nice, but Arrow have been botching their quality control pretty badly of late. City Of The Living Dead suffered frozen grain, Deep Red had that nasty pixellated flare-up amongst other complaints, The Beyond had its sepia-tinted prologue totally mucked-up … and now Phenomena gets stripped down, colour boosted and struck with compression artefacts.

I didn't realise Arrow were releasing Bird in a 2.0 ratio. They don't like making life easy for themselves do they? I wasn't going to get this one anyway as I have the BU release and am happy with that. I'm mostly pleased with the Arrow Blu Rays I have so far, I don't think the DNR on most of them is too bad, we're not talking Gladiator here. However, with the black and white Beyond opening issue and now using a DOP approved ratio instead of the original one makes me convinced Arrow are blissfully unaware of the product they release. Surely if they know anything they'd be aware of the controversy of the ridiculous Univisium ratio and avoid it like the plague considering the blasting they get for lesser offences. They pride themselves on listening to their fans, but surely they should be realising these errors themselves beforehand rather than relying on the internet community to do it for them. A genuinely puzzling company.

It doesnt seem like they are that bothered about what's on the disc as long as they've got some postcards in the box. I'm fed up with watching one of their releases and thinking 'well, it isn't too bad', at the RRP they have (anything between £23-30) there's no excuse. I've only seen a few minutes of The Beyond, so shan't judge too harshly but it looks way too processed to me, my heart sank. Hoping the corrected disc is better, but not holding out much hope. If they ever send them...I'm getting a bit suspiscious there, as they're still selling the B&W version on their site and, as far as I know, haven't gotten the corrected discs pressed yet...why keep selling the faulty version?

Do they really listen to the fans, or just listen to that section of the fans that wants all the grain removed and the different covers etc? I'm a long time fan of these films but not a fan of Arrow's treatment of them by a long shot. Finally had enough.

As for Bird, well....its like they want to annoy people.

Picked up the BU version fairly cheap here (£12.78). Picked up a few things recently from gam.co, they're pretty decent, although they have a habit of saying they can get scarcer/older R1 things and then cancelling them.
