That's pretty good to hear, cant hurt to have another copy of Brain Dead, I have the others all on DVD but 4K will be nice, also hope the extras from Bad Taste get the upgrade 'Good Taste made Bad Taste' as its a great incite into the making of Bad Taste

#13 - Slaughterhouse Rulez – AKA Carry On Fracking – AKA Attack The Frack (2018)

A fracking company buy the land in the woods surrounding an English public school. Unfortunately they’re inept and manage to drill through into a subterranean cave system, inadvertently unleashing a pack of those dogs from Ghostbusters.

Sadly it takes the best part of an hour to get to the meat and when it finally does it’s mostly a load of old s*ite.

Edit: I just watched the end credits and noticed it was written and directed by Crispian Mills from Kula Shaker. Well no fuc*ing wonder it was garbage.

I Am Lisa (2020) - Not sure why this low budget werewolf movie has such a high rating on RT but it did keep my attention throughout. One to go in the lower section of 'watch next' pile.

Hmmm just reading the review of Bly Manor on Digital Fix header, yeah I figured as much; less involvement from Flanagan = I'll be in no great rush to watch it then.

#22 - Ringu 2 (1999)
Back on track with the official Ringu sequel. Opens with Sadako's body being retrieved from the well and the pathologist stating "She was alive down there for 30 years, she only died a couple years ago" OPENING CREDITS. Nice. Ryuji's girlfriend Mai takes center stage for most of this one as she tries to track down Reiko and the wee boy while dealing with journos, cops and doctors all trying to make sense of the video curse. While not as good as the original this was surprisingly up to scratch, much better than I remember it being. Again it's mostly creep and dread with few big scares but that's all good. And it ends with one of my absolute favourite horror situations; the old Scientists Vs Ghosts showdown (Poltergeist, The Entity, etc). Altho the boffins **** the bed in record time here basically getting wiped out immediately

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986)
When a pair of pranking jocks play chicken with the wrong van they find themselves victims of the infamous chainsaw massacrerers live on the radio. Vengeance seeking Dennis Hopper (Lefty Enright ) uses the situation to place radio DJ Caroline Williams in the sights of the killer cannibals to draw them out for the kill. This may be a blasphemous opinion in a horror thread but I've never been a fan of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Sure, I get its importance and value but putting up with one of cinema's most annoying characters for the first half of the movie followed by an endurance busting run of constant screaming and revving chainsaws is not my idea of fun. So how does Tobe Hooper's belated sequel fair? Well, it gets off to a fun start - a heavier weighting of blackly comic antics mixed with a colourful EC comic visuals and competingly OTT performances from Bill Moseley and Hopper are much more my bag. There's some terrifically macabre details such as Chop-Top constantly picking, cooking and eating his scalp flesh, the many wonderful turns of phrase uttered by assorted rednecks, poor L.G.'s treatment and a strangely eroticised view of chainsaws. The final confrontation between crazy Hopper and crazy cannibals in an abandoned theme park should have been a home run but, alas, it's a slow crawl towards constant screaming and revving chainsaws

Another 88 Films Italian Collection classic picked at random...

#23 - Zombie 3 (1988) aka Zombie Flesh Eaters II
Scientists in the Philippines experimenting with a toxic chemical called "Death One" for the US Army royally screw up and a plague is unleashed. And a very odd plague it is too. The "zombies" range from very fast to very slow. Some seem to know kung-fu, some like using weapons. Others enjoy sitting up trees and jumping on to their prey. A few prefer whispering menacingly. One decapitated head in a freezer seems to have the ability to fly, now that's just silly, when they did it in Bride of Re-Animator they sewed re-animated bat wings to it first, I mean that's logical at least Oh and the woman giving birth that sprouts a full grown man's zombie arm from her belly Yep, I've seen this numerous times over the years and I never get sick of it. Just completely bonkers stuff from Fulci in his later, couldn't give a toss, period. Recommended

The Invisible Man (2020)
Elisabeth Moss flees her abusive, wealthy, tech entrepreneur boyfriend Oliver Jackson-Cohen. His subsequent suicide should be her release from fear but instead is a prelude to his unseen presence destroying her life. Leigh Whannell once again crafts an excellent thriller with escalating stakes and tension. Effects are held in check and used sparingly, packing a punch when utilised. But the film belongs to Moss - not only does she have to convey the various emotional states of her own character but she also has to sell the menace of her unseen assailant. One thing that occurred to me though while watching was how different viewing this film would be if you could see it blind and it didn't carry the title 'Invisible Man'…?

#24 - Rawhead Rex (1986)
Farmer tilling his field moves a big stone and unleashes a demon from ancient times. I can't be objective about this one. I know it's [probably] a terrible movie but I've loved it since I wore out my crappy old VHS back in the 90's. Every old piece of **** "cult" horror has had a super-duper bluray release these days and I'm sure most people now don't even bother with physical media or care about special features but I am unreasonably happy that this particular Arrow Video SE is a thing that exists

#25 - Ringu 0 (2000)
30 years before the events of Ringu; Sadako is a quiet young woman with a troubled past who joins a theater troupe on the advice of her therapist. Well this was kinda different. It's got a very TV movie feel to it and a whole lot of melodrama but it still managed to grab my attention and make me feel something for the pre-well dweller herself. I mean it's obviously a not too subtle rip-off of Carrie but that's OK, it's odd and J-horror alt enough to get past that. The whole thing is more interesting than frightening, more of a tragedy than a horror, no real scares, not much creepiness either. I'm not selling it well I know. I liked it, some Ringu fans [I imagine] might hate it.

If you haven't already, try Doom Asylum.

No specific reason than the name appeals to me

I'm going to try and post a list of what I've watched up today, so far this year it's been a bit of a failure (only about 7 films).

Doom Asylum tonight then. Ended up going thru the extensive special features on the Ringu discs last night, excellent stuff! Think I might need to try those Sadako 3D flicks now.

When you get round to The Prey, I'd recommend watching the shorter version. Neither version is very good, but the 'legendary' gypsy camp flashbacks in the longer cut are interminable & there's (what feels like) about half an hour of extra wildlife close-ups.

The Slayer is good creepy fun. I watched it for this thread a few years back & this part of my review sums it up:

2 more films ive watched this week...

VHS Viral (2014) from amazon prime

Trailer...

Really enjoyed this one, the dante the great short is excellent fun. Bone storm and Parallel Monsters shorts are alot of fun. even with the 15 rating it still pretty gorey and violent. 7 out of 10.

One eyed Monster (2008) again from amazon prime

Trailer...

This was a disappointment. Could of been a classic splatter comedy, instead they pull the punches. Almost no gore and very little nudity. Some great lines in the script though and the legend Ron jeremy is great. 4 out of 10.

#26 - Love and Monsters (2020)
7 years after the monsterpocalypse only 5% of the earth's population remains and they're all living underground in bunkers because of the slavering mutant CGI beasts roaming the surface. Young Joel however feels compelled to travel 80 miles to another colony to see his pre-pocalypse girlfriend, a journey made all the more difficult by his tendency to freeze up under pressure. Now this was fun! Plenty of action, humour, a cute Aussie dog, Michael Rooker and minimal YA melodrama. Just found out it was written by Brian Duffield who penned The Babysitter from a few years back, guess he was doing this instead of McG's sequel, here's hoping if they make another of these he'll stay with it. Recommended

#12 - Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - Which I enjoyed more than i thought i would. The ever present Lily James wasnt bad, and some of the zombie designs were good.

#13 - Little Evil - Laugh free netflix comedy version of the omen. Adam scott plays the usual Adam scott role. Clancy Brown and Sally Field are both wasted in this.

After two comedy horrors, time to watch some proper ones.

The Odeon have some decent ones coming up (lockdown permitting).

Watched the first two episodes of Lovecraft Country, not feeling the love so far.

Absentia (2011)
Courtney Bell is about to move on with her life seven years after her husband's disappearance. With his death ruled in absentia she is still haunted by his memory. Her ex-junkie sister, Katie Parker, meanwhile encounters a strange man (Doug Jones) in the underpass near their home triggering an unfortunate chain of events that put paid to their hopeful plans for the future. Mike Flanagan's early horror feature achieves quite a lot despite its miniscule budget. There's some incredibly well executed scares and the story veers into some quite unexpected places.

#27 - Doom Asylum (1988)
A handful of college kids and an awful punk girl band trio go on a day trip to an abandoned asylum inhabited by a horribly disfigured homicidal psycho lawyer. Oh this was cheap. So very cheap. We're talking boom mics in shot, porn quality acting and it's all filmed in stark daylight level cheapness. It took me about 30 mins to realise it was actually supposed to be a horror comedy rather than just an inept slasher flick but the jokey dialogue is bizarre and often painful to watch. I loved it all of course! Bonus points for introducing Kristin (Sex & The City) Davis in her first movie role, a memory I imagine she still cringes at the mention of

This actually contains 2 commentary tracks and while I don't have time for that kind of deep dive during horror month this disc is going straight to the top of my "stuff to fall asleep watching" pile
