Changeling (was about A Mighty Heart) - Has Saint Angie got oscar #2 in the bag?

Seems that way if the reviews of her performance are anything to go by, plus she's playing a living person who experienced a terrible tragedy (during a particularly relevant moment in recent history) and came through it with great dignity, which is always great for oscar glory. No mental retardation or physical handicap though (unless you count the prosthetic pregnant belly), which might scupper her chances!

Is she playing a black woman in this? In the pics i saw she was looking distinctly darker than usual.

She plays Mariane Pearl, so her skin tone has been darkened for a better resemblance.

Wow. Pretty good resemblence. Jolie can be quite a good actress but its mostly overshadowed by her private life.

I think that's what's impressing some reviewers, they say her performance in this film completely eclipses the whole Brangelina thing from your mind as she is so deeply in character.

Saw this last night and thought it was very good indeed. Had a similar style to United 93 I felt. Although it lacked some of the resonance of that amazing piece of work. I'm looking forward to the R1 that comes out in couple of weeks.

The talk regarding Jolie's performance is spot on, she's absolutely amazing. I don't really care about all the tabloid celebrity nonsense stuff, and have always thought she was a talented actresses, so its great to see her finally cut lose and really turn out a great performance. I can't think of any other female performance i've seen this year that was better, so i'd imagine there's a good chance an Oscar is heading her way.

Only down point was that there were two muppets in the Cardiff Cineworld last night who sat right near me and decided it would be funny to crack a joke at a key moment near the end (if you know the facts of the story you can probably imagine which part). It just staggers me that some people think its ok to be so selfish and ruin others enjoyment of the film. I can understand a rowdy audience if its The Grudge or some mindless cack, but who goes to a film like this on friday night and acts like a moron?

Just realised Jolie didn't get a nomination for this, which is nuts (probably). I'm yet to see any of the other best actresses performances but Jolie in this was easily the best female lead I saw all last year.

This looks like a perfect example of a small film being forgotten due to coming out quite a while ago.

Nah, it was the lack of "mental retardation or physical handicap" that did it, Julie Christie got the monopoly on that one (Alzheimer's) and Ellen Page's character was defined by her prosthetic pregnant belly (which Angie's wasn't). Better luck next time Angie. I feel her only hope now is the Alison Lapper story! She'd get to do a "British" accent in that one too!

Well if the reviews from Cannes are anything to go by Saint Angie will be at the Oscars next year for Clint Eastwood's Changeling. Seeing as the Academy loves Clint this one probably won't be overlooked.
Not that I really care if she gets another oscar, do I? No I really don't. So why did I start a thread about it?!
I still think she should look into doing the Alison Lapper story!

I still reckon she was completely robbed by the Oscars with "A mighty heart".

To be fair I didn't see the winning performance, but I certainly saw a good number of the other noms, and Jolie was head and shoulders over them. Probably down to fact the role was in a geniunely good & a bit edgy film, and not some grandstanding biopic.

I'm hardly a massive fan of Jolie (she's been in some right rubbish) but no nom was a really awful awful decision.

That looks much better than I'd imagined - looks like another fine performance by Jolie.

Why not open up a new thread for the new movie? Looks excellent, though....

Eh, I was a little underwhelmed by it, though Eastwoods interview in Sight and Sound make it sound much much better than what this trailer looks.

It's quality. You can well imagine it hangin about with R2-D2. And when the fan is switched on it looks like it's scanning for life-forms like R2-D2 does on the ice world of Hoth when Luke Skywalker goes missing. Quality in moton. The other day it disappeared. I said, "where's the bag-l gone? have the jawas come to pick it up in the sandcrawler?" to which one of the girls in the office replied, "No, Les the porter!" —Captainchode

Changeling

Could only find this old thread about Changeling - http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/s...ght=Changeling

It was originally in relation to A Mighty Heart, so I thought I'd start a new thread specifically about Changeling if that's ok.

I really enjoyed this recently. I figure it has Oscar written all over it. I wouldn't object to Angelina Jolie getting the Oscar for this performance, she carried it well.

Jason Butler Harner, who I've never really heard of gives an excellent performance with his limited screentime.

It's not typically the type of film that I would go for, but I had a watch on the strength of the trailer and was nicely surprised. The look of the 1920's was captured perfectly throughout.

Nominations in all the major Oscar categories perhaps? The Academy loves Eastwood

As it was last posted in a couple of months ago we don't really need a new one.

Oh dear you might have found mine, http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/s...d.php?t=518507, if I had spelt the title right

I am looking forward to this the trailer looked really good and as it is written by the Great Maker himself, J Micheal Straczynski, that would be worth the price of admission alone. And is it me or does there seem to be a lack of publicity for a film staring Jolie and directed by Eastwood?
