That "piece of junk" is the fastest and the toughest hunk of junk in that or any other galaxy. The MF has one-off techno bits that no other ship of any type on either side has or will ever have. That's what makes it special.

PS: I haven't 'spoiled' anything by using that quote.

The more I think about the last jedi the more I think it's a absolutely fantastic film.

Sod the haters.

...and one Star Wars fan has finally snapped and started up a petition!

Have Disney strike Star Wars Episode VIII from the official canon.

It amazes me that they not only get this angry and serious over a piece of entertainment but actually believe this petition might have an effect. Much like that other one recently to try and get Warner Bros. to release Zak Snyders cut of Justice League.

There was another petition a few years ago to try and get Disney to carry on releasing novels in the expanded universe. (Disney basically swept the expanded universe under the rug so they could write their own stories and not worry about clashing with any of the previous stories that had been released.)

I took my eight year old girl along and she liked it a lot. Nothing close to being graphic. Two lesser swear words maybe.

The thing is, I don't feel there are many 'haters' of the film. Most people I know who've seen are are disappointed more than anything else.

I wish I did enjoy it. I can't recall a film being this divisive among it fan base.

I liked it but, unlike others on this thread, I thought most of the "humour" was badly misjudged. I can even imagine Lucas cringing at some of it.

Echoing some comments above, I liked it but didn't think it was fantastic.

All the critics seemed to like the last Indiana Jones movie as well.

I think it was mostly the pacing, it was fairly slow in places which gave you time to think a bit more about it and why were they doing that, not like the non-stopness of the last one.

I think we need to judge it when we've seen the last one.

Yes that's right, George Lucas, who directed the prequel trilogy that included Jar Jar Binks, the other gungans, C3PO having his head knocked off and "hilariously" replaced with a battle droid head, fart gags, a character stepping in poo, death sticks etc. will be cringing at a few jokes in the new film. Is there anyone who found the jokes in the prequel trilogy genuinely funny?
The jokes in The Last Jedi will be right up his street. Just look at all of the comedy asides that he unnecessarily included in the special editions of the original trilogy.
Now I'm not going to lie and say I was convinced by the jokes in The Last Jedi but people acting like humour in Star Wars is a new thing is really getting on my tits.

Yes you are right. I can't believe misremembered about Luke given the amount of times I've seen the films over the years. For some reason I had it my head that Luke was only aware that Anakin fought in the resistance rather than knowing he was a jedi. As for Anakin's origins I intentionally pretend that the virgin birth wasn't mentioned as it's so naff.

That explains some of the issues I had with The Last Jedi. It doesn't pretend that the prequels didn't exist and parts of a particular section could have been lifted straight from one of them. I kind of just want to forget that the prequels don't exist so to be reminded of them was a bit jarring.

While I think that a petition is silly, the fan does have a point when you look at the beginning of the second paragraph of his article. I think that is why many (including me to some extent) feel disappointed with the film. In all previous SW films, the dodgy prequels included,
was the primary background issue, irrespective of the direction the story arc was heading. That is not the case with TLJ which a lot of us find hard to accept.

I completely agree. This need to know every single detail about a characters back story is bizarre. Obviously I want to see some filling in of the gaps but I don't see the need for everything to be neatly linked in and tied up to something the other films.
Darth Vader was far more interesting and threatening before they very badly showed his back story in the prequels. I actually thought Rogue One did a great job in showing him as the monstrous character he originally was.

I don't think he has a point at all and I completely disagree with him. Star Wars isn't about the Jedi at all. It's a story about good versus evil and Jedi powers and the force are components in the story. This petition bloke is just a tedious, joyless nerd who takes Star Wars way too seriously. No one watches Star Wars because they want to hear more about the plight of the Jedi. They watch because it has Han Solo, space ships, lasers, light sabers, walking carpets, a cool Princess and bad ass villain in black. I know that Luke Skywalker is a main focus but no one wanted to be him in the playground at school did they?

I agree with most points that you have raised, especially the prequels ruining the awesome image of Darth Vader with that character. Buy in Rey's particular case, I think her parentage and background will have a bearing if the sort arc finally heads the way most of us hope that it would. She seemed extraordinarily force-sensitive and needed very little training or effort to harness its powers. At the same time, she seems to able to retain the 'good' side human nature and
. She is almost certainly the "Chosen One" and while
it would be nice if her background fitted into existing main characters.

You'll have to direct me to the bit in Empire where a badly rendered CGI hamster smacks against a windscreen.
