Clearly not at the heights of the Sir Alex years, but to say we are no better than under Moyes is delusional, and utter clap trap. Currently unbeaten in 39 home games - compared to every team coming to OT thinking they can get a win under Moyes, and a lot of them did!

The interesting test for José is how we do in the CL, somewhere that in all fairness, SAF underachieved.

You've also got to remember that for much of the Ferguson period who were your rivals, often it wasn't really anyone.

FFS for one of the seasons we (Nottingham Forest) were a major rival. Blackburn, Newcastle, a lacklustre Liverpool, etc.

You've now to compete with huge spending clubs, whilst you've always been up there and competed, you have often come up second best to bigger spending rivals.

The idea that you should always be coming out on top, beating everyone 5-0, is a tad unrealistic.

Although City seem to be doing okay at that.

This season they've managed to get their stuff together, definitely agree to that. What was the excuse the year Leicester won the title? I'm guessing they're paying through the nose for Pep and through the nose for the talent on the pitch.

I thought Man Utd fans prided themselves on spending what was earnt

Do you think Pep costs more than José?

I guess his all-star side probably cost the earth.

I reckon Pep costs more than Jose, I imagine most of the major clubs would want Pep to be the manager, whereas a good number would pass on JM. He's already burned his bridges with most of them.

Pep's never roughed it though, never really been tested, not even now.

Not compared to most, but he did his time, achieved remarkable things at Porto, and his spell at Inter was impressive.

I think to be fair to JM, he takes a team that are 95% there and gives them a little boost, after spending a lot of money. With United it's a judgement call whether he is giving them a boost compared to what was before.

He did do decent things at Porto, you've got to give him credit for that.

And at Inter, they hadn't won the CL since the 60s.

Whilst he's never had to manage with limited funds, I think that you're conveniently ignoring the immense improvements that he's made to Sterling, Sane, Otamendi and Stones. He's even found a way to improve De Bruyne, Silva and Aguero!

So to say that he's not been tested is not true. Some managers talents lie in getting the best out of limited resources (e.g. Allardyce), whilst others like Pep, Ancelotti and Mourhinho are hired to wring even more out of high calibre players.

Pep has definitely been tested; and it took him most of last season to work out how to fix things.

How many people have tried and failed to get the best out of the overpaid prima donnas at City? It's got to be a skill in itself to get them to turn up and play to their potential. It sounds daft, but plenty have tried and failed

I'm not sure he's improved Sane, De Bruyne, Silva and Aguero, they were hardly **** players beforehand. Sterling and Otamendi I will give you, and probably Stones, but is that down to Pep, or the players that he has assembled?

It's no slight on him, but he is used to working with the best squads in the league, or if not he is given the virtually unlimited funds with which to assemble the best squads, I'd say keeping those superstars happy where his most notable talent lies.

This is the best squad they've had since the late 60s, so it's not really a problem they've encountered that often.

They may have had one or two 'prima donnas' in the past, but they were either misfits, past their best, or didn't realize they were signing for City.

Any happier with last night's performance?

Really not sure what the point of the last couple of pages are? Surely Jose and Pep are the most successful managers currently working in the PL, perhaps the world. They have both had success everywhere they have gone.

Jose has made a big difference to Utd, but clearly we were in a far worse state than what Pep took over at City. Both managers have improved their teams and we can see that reflected in the league so far.
