I'm not sure, but it's petty (especially considering that immense fortune that man sits on). The bloke recently gave half his wealth to charity, so (as usual) his motives are unfathomable. You'd like to think he'd give the fans what he wants, seeing as it's the almost comically huge fanbase that makes Star Wars what it is.

I have absolutely no issue with the fan edits myself. They are simply doing something that Lucas refuses to do. Most of the people that have downloaded them probably bought the films half a dozen times over the years anyway.

This 'Marcia gets no money' thing is bull. She's got points in the movie, just like all the main contributors to the film. If she didn't get money from the SEs, then surely that applies to everyone else who originally had a share in the profits. Did those people - and there are quite a few, even Spielberg's got a quarter of a point or something - just sit back and let George do them up the jacksie? Cobblers.

I thought Lucas gave people like Spielberg and the effects team points due to his own generosity? When he releases them these guys don't continue to get money - it's not a share issue.

But when Marcia Lucas and he got divorced, she won a percentage of any future profits on Star Wars...and Lucas figured out a loophole where she can't get anything by reading the small print and figuring this doesent relate to any tosh he comes out with in the future.

Personally I think the guy's lost it..but then I realised that when his company released the shoddy Clone Wars movie and subsequent news of TV shows.

Even if it is true, Lucas had his reasons. Keeping Marcia out of the future financial loop is mean-spirited for sure, but she left him for another man. This saddled him with a hefty divorce settlement and it also meant Lucas had to bring up baby. (Which is partly why the prequels took so long to come to fruition; Lucas was busy raising his kids, whose influence would also be felt on the more immature antics seen in Episode I.)

that's a fairly harsh punishment TBH

Does anyone know where I can get a breakdown of what extras are the same as the DVD?

The DVD commentaries have been carried across. That, AFAIK, is it.

And for all the guff online about Lucas not releasing the originals, well, er, he did. Not in good quality, natch, but they've seen the light of day on DVD and it's annoying when people either aren't aware of it (like in that BBC article) or wilfully ignore it (can't let that fact get in the way of a good bit of Lucas bashing).

Marcia Lucas hasn't done anything for years. You can only assume she's still living off of Star Wars.

But that's what was asked for, really. The original movies with no changes whatsoever. That's what he gave us.

Wasn't he stiffed because he got a percentage of the profits, rather than the gross?

I thought Spielberg swapped Lucas a point for Star Wars for a point in Close Encounters or something? It doesn't surprise me that accountants are still claiming ROTJ never went into profit. If you believe WB, none of their films have ever gone into profit, to avoid paying out residuals and points from profit. They're notorious for it.

I doubt they take into account the amount of income generated for merchandising, which must be massive for RotJ alone.

No but even if they could TV rights and home video sales etc. they must have made many times the cost of production
