It wouldn't spark off the Lucasite uproar because Ridley has given us multiple older versions to choose to watch unlike George.

Exactly, when you have access to all versions, including previously unreleased workprints, you can't really complain!

At least Spielberg shared the same view with the release of E.T.!

Not far wrong...

Sick of the Lucas digging... I love the star wars films no matter what version... If u don't like them don't watch them... Lucas gave us the unaltered versions on dvd and u can buy them cheap anywhere... Love ridleys movies but ain't nearly all got diff versions.. Cameron is the god at leaving stuff out and releasing diff versions.... And everyone praises Spielberg for give us the original ET Ermm sorry... Still had dialogue changed so it wasn't what we see in the cinemas. Ridleys wouldn't even have made alien or blade runner if it wasn't for Lucas... Come to think of it neither would Cameron or peter Jackson being doing what they do if it wasn't for George Lucas

Erm, the original version of E.T. has no dialogue changes as far as I'm aware. What are you referring to exactly?

Yes, in ****** non-anamorphic transfers from the old laserdiscs. That's why people complain.

& not too many people complain about the changes to Blade Runner because A) all the other versions are out there, & B) Other than the removal of the voice-over, most of the changes are SUBTLE. Scott didn't feel the need to populate every spare inch of the frame with rubbish cgi & critters 'hilariously' falling off things.

We will never get the original version in awesome quality because it simply doesn't exist. There's a long article I've seen explaining that one of the main reasons to create the special edition was to make sure the film was restored as it was close to completely deteriorating.

So many versions and not once did they consider bumping up the time it takes place by a couple of decades.

Yes, and in the original he still says that! In the re-released version they changed it to hippie. I have both versions on DVD, 1 is the original version with no changes.

Yes, universal wanted to only release the newer version and Spielberg insisted they still include the original, unaltered version.

There are separation masters for Star Wars and who knows how many interpositives so even if the original neg was/is in such a bad state, Lucas could do it if he wanted. It's just him being an arse.

If only you could see what I've seen with your eyes...

I'm going to stick my neck out and say there's one part of the BR final cut that I really don't like:
Or is it just me?

Just you, it was one thing that jarred with me and i'm glad they finally fixed it.

I love the Final Cut, and shows how a director 'should' update a classic, this along with the DC of Star Trek:The Motion Picture

I liked the blue sky because I thought it was a subjective shot, from Batty's POV.

My favourite cut is the International Cut, I kinda like the deadpan narration. The Final Cut is great as well, except Ridley decided to speed up Deckard's climb to the roof by trimming a couple of long shots.
