Cyclone Primus HDMI MKV Media Player Enclosure Caddy

http://www.envizage.com/products/sv-...ure-caddy.html

For just under £44 delivered. It seems to do everything.

Wack in a big drive and stick it in the kids bedroom, or the old folks front room and they can watch films with out the hassle of a HTPC, and its pretty easy to update ?

Many thanks. Was just about to buy an alternative one that used external drives for £25 more. It's for my sister and her family so keeping it all in one unit was always going to be a better option. So impressed with the price I went for 2! Just need 2 1tb hard drives now.

Think I'll swap the 2nd 1tb drive in my PC for a 2tb and put the old one in my enclosure.

I've lost count of the number of drive caddies and media players I have bought (and chucked away) over the years yet I am still driven to get one of these.

Thanks OP.

Edit : If you haven't got a spare drive you can buy them with a drive already in (eg the 1Tb one for £74)

I can't work out which resolution these pump out movies at. It says photos upto 1080p but if it plays back HD video material I'd definitely pick one up.

Several of my work colleagues have recently bought the non-caddy version of this & i've seen it in action & it works a treat with 1080p MKV files.

Nope, you can attach NTFS-formatted drives to it, which i've witnessed playing 10Gb+ 1080p MKV files with ease.

Although, one person did have problems with his NTFS usb-powered drive, so maybe it ain't 100% compatible.

While I await delivery, one thing I couldn't work out from the description and images is whether you can attach an external drive as with my Cyclone 2? Obviously that has no internal drive so it needs that feature.

Can't see an SD card slot either so that looks out of the question. I do enjoy the ability to swap drives, plug a USB stick or a card with with videos from my camera in. Anyone that's got this model know if it's possible?

noticed in the description it says "Card reader with support for SD, SDHC and MMC."

it has 2 USB ports according to the official site (http://www.sumvision.com.cn/searchRe...heid=1954#1954) so should support external drives as well

more details here - http://www.mt-electronics.com/driver...usBrochure.pdf

Can't see anything to suggest that this can play files over a network - if it can't do that then I'm not so fussed... While kids may make do with a fixed set of files to begin with, they'll be constantly asking for new files to be copied over!!

it doesn't have an ethernet port so can't play files over a network

Didn't think so; ta for confirming. Was browsing forums from my phone while waiting in Argos, so couldn't really see anything in the pictures!

I assume it'll be similar to the interface for the micro version...

Has anyone received theirs yet? Can it pass HD audio, and also does anyone know if it is capable of simultaneous output via HDMI and composite? Couldn't find any answers on the spec sheets to confrim either way.
May finally buy one of these if so.

Presuming it's the same chip as the Sumvision Cylone Micro v2, it's a decent bit of kit. The micro has played everything I've tried so far, but I don't have any 1080p. But 720p MKV, MP4s, AVIs all play just fine. For £30, one of my better buys this year. With a small USB flash drive, it makes an excellent media player for use while travelling.
