The Event

Starts tonight on NBC. The trailer looks very good so I'm looking forward to it, hoping it'll fill a 24 shaped hole in my TV schedule.

The Event follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), a man who, while investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend, begins to discover the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.

I can't decide if the Washington Post's review is scathing or not? *warning: potential spoilers, although if you saw any previews you've already seen the same stuff*
I keep reading online that The Event is *potential huge spoiler*
If so, yawn.
I am really hoping this is something special but all I can think of is Flashforward's crushing ineptitude and the feeling that we're in for more of the same. Hope I'm wrong.
I'm less concerned about what The Event is than whether or not we'll care when we find out.

Someone, sometime, has to get a show like this right.

If done right, this is probably the only new Network show that has potential. Definitely the one i'm most looking forward to. Not too difficult though as most of the other new offerings look awful.

Yep it's definitely my most anticipated from all of the trailers I've seen.
I'm sure the network were well aware of how much Flashforward failed, and wouldn't have picked this up unless they were more than sure it would be good.
Oh well, we'll soon see if it's any good

I think channel 4 picked it up and plan to show it pretty close to the US dates.

Sounds interesting.

According to Wikipedia, Channel 4 did pick it up and intend to start showing it in October, although there doesn't appear to be anything on their website.

Let's hope that this is more "Dark Skies" than "Flash Forward".

mnneeghh, not entirely sold on the first episode but I'll stick with it. Could be Ok, hard to tell from what they've shown us. Maybe a 2 hour opener would have been better.

Really really quite bad. Hawaii 5-0 was a lot more exciting (Never thought I'd say that).

Obscure references to 'The Event' abound because the show seems to think that just outright giving no information at all is equal to it being a mystery. It worked for something like 'Persons Unknown' (And I use the term 'worked' loosely) because that show was so low key. Hell 'Rubicon' essentially pulls the same trick but manages to remain interesting.

Every show tries to be 'Lost' but fails to understand what made that Pilot work. Seriously watch the pilot for this or Flashforward and then go and see the Pilot for Lost again. Characters at the end of that Pilot have drive, motivations and are well defined. It provides a great end for the episode and a great drive for the rest of the Season. 'The Event' is just all surface with nothing to hang it on.

And when the fan is switched on it looks like it's scanning for life-forms like R2-D2 does on the ice world of Hoth when Luke Skywalker goes missing. Quality in moton. The other day it disappeared. I said, "where's the bag-l gone? have the jawas come to pick it up in the sandcrawler?" to which one of the girls in the office replied, "No, Les the porter!" —Captainchode

haven't seen Event yet, but watched Hawaii Five 0 this morning.

Quite enjoyable I thought - funny to see Scott Caan pretty much doing his exact same character from Entourage (without the swearing/cocaine)

I don't know that there this any hype. Apart from the show's commercials itself. I honestly don't think they know what 'The Event' is yet. But I hope it's some massively out there idea, rather than a boring assassination attempt or something.

Thought it was a pretty good opener personally. The trailer for the show seemed to only show footage from the first episode which is a nice surprise. Although I'm hoping we don't get the time shifts every episode... it got a little confusing.

No bad green screen (like 24), no hammy acting (like in 24), some nice orchestral music (which reminded me of Lost). I'm all for it if it's a faster paced, dumbed down version of Rubicon with some sci-fi elements thrown in
The biggest test is if it'll be able to keep up with the pace of this first episode. We'll see
