Good review of this film and I agree with the points made Matt.

I only watched it as I wanted to find more films like The Beyond and Z2, shame this is not a keeper really.
The only bit (sic) I remember is the drill through the head...and that it made virtually no sense at all.

Roll on Zombi 2 and The Beyond in HD :-)

Hey there's no way this was shot 2 perf as you claim as, like the other Fulci films shot 2 perf (and all 2 perf films) it would have had a Techniscope 2.33:1 ratio and not this one - why cropt the left and right off during a shoot when you are running 35mm through a gate?

I would enquire as to the speed of the stock he used - which I still belive was 35mm and not 16mm as the post costs would have outweighed the savings during the shoot considerably - and not if it was two perfs?

I'm sorry Chris maybe I didn't make it clear enough in my review, I wasn't trying to claim with any certaintly it was shot 2-perf over 16mm as I know a there's a general consensus that City was shot on the latter rather than 35mm - I even asked some of my more knowledgeable DVDTimes co-horts and they informed me that for years now City has been talked about as a 16mm film. I was merely trying to come up with an alternative theaory as to why City looks so soft and grainy on HD if (and I used the big IF) it wasn't a 16mm film.

I believe there have been masked 1.66, 1.75 and masked/cropped 1.85 Techniscope releases but you raise an excellent point that all of Fulci's other Techniscope films are wider, so that probably shoots my theory dead. I've got no clue as to the speed of the stock he used and wouldn't know where to look for info that specific on a film like City, I did attempt to get in touch with Arrow regarding their masters and whether they had any information that could shed some light on the original format but recieved no response. In retrospect I think those questions may be best aimed at Blu Underground in the US.

If you do find out anything definitive Chris would you mind posting in this thread and let me know? I'll update the review accordingly then! For now I'll I'll edit the review to highlight your posts in the Comments section.
