I'd say that one of two things have happened:

1) it looked more dramatic from that angle; or

2) when the cameraman and crew at the finish line saw a car on two wheels coming their way, they ran like stink.

Best episode for ages though (but I am partial to the show anyway).

I do agree that it is a bit hit and miss, but I suspect the SIARPC section fulfils several objectives for them.

First, it's cheap compared to the rest of the show, and that is important at the moment. Second, they have a queue of celebrities, minor and major, queuing up to get on it and no-one can predict how any of them will do, or how entertaining they will be. Thirdly, it's clearly the best part of the show to take out for the 'commercial TV / international' version. And finally, it gives them something to record in front of their audience. Getting a new car this series shows that they think the segment still has legs, so I don't think it's going anywhere.

I suspect the Escape to Poland bit was deliberately kept back for an 'extended' DVD version, not left out due to lack of time.

Eh? Star in a reasonably priced car is always in the international version whenever I've seen it. Stuff like the news (most notably) and some of the in-studio banter is first to go. SIARPC will always be in there because it helps the show transcend its traditional audience.

I'm sure I've seen episodes on Dave where it's been left out. But your point that it helps the show transcend its traditional audience is also a good one.

I think I've seen episodes on Dave in the past where it seems like they've cut some of the interview, but the section itself is still present.

There must be something going on behind it, because as well as that, this page about Senna is no longer on the Top Gear website either:

I wonder if they have had it chopped as it contains stuff that someone will have copyrighted in the Senna tribute film that comes out next year?

My all-time favourite Top Gear is the drive to the Millau bridge in the Ferrari, Zonda and the Ford GT. That was the formula at its absolute peak. The weird thing is, a recent repeat on Dave had completely different music on the Millau section. Can't figure out why and I was DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED!!!

Found this reference on a car forum I occasionally frequent:

"Chris Evans mentioned this morning that it will never(ever!) be repeated again, due to something to do with F1 copyright."

That's ******* retarded. I'm not saying you're incorrect with your info, but why on earth clear it for recording/viewing if you only allow it to be shown once?

Its no different from shows that have a soundtrack that gets changed when they get released on dvd etc. I should think F1 copyright everything possible to squeeze the last bit of money out of everything they do. I agree its a real shame as it means it probably wont be seen again.

The interviews with the current F1 stars/pundits did give us a sneak peek into what F1 will be like in HD though. Which was nice.

Well it wouldn't do to remind people that F1 used to be exciting.

It's very different. This is about a repeat broadcast, not a DVD release (which I could somewhat understand).

I just checked I-Player and the last episode of Top Gear still comes up as being one hour in length so it still on there at least.

This copyright protection move by F1 is just the latest damming evidence that all F1 and its masters care about is the money, the actual sport has nothing to do with it anymore.

Hope Jeremy Clarkson brings this up next week, preferably with a prominently delivered Foxtrot Oscar to Ecclestone and Co and then just to really pee off the F1 bosses, show it again!!

Mmmm . . . the BBC currently have F1 but JC's popularity probably makes him 'bigger than Bernie.' Which. He is.
